Deadpool & Wolverine Director Reveals Why It Isn't Titled Deadpool 3

As a huge fan of both Deadpool and Wolverine, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the upcoming movie, Deadpool & Wolverine. The fact that it’s not called Deadpool 3 is an exciting development, as director Shawn Levy explained in a recent interview on Marvel’s Official Podcast.

In simpler terms, Director Shawn Levy explained on Marvel’s podcast why the Deadpool & Wolverine film isn’t named Deadpool 3. According to him, having both characters in the title signifies more than just marketing – it represents an equal focus on Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. The movie portrays a heartfelt journey of their unique friendship, even if they don’t start off as allies right away. Essentially, this is their joint tale, and the title and other aspects of the production reflect that. Listen to the podcast episode for further insights from Shawn Levy.

“Levy explained on the podcast that the project isn’t referred to as ‘Deadpool 3’. The reason being is that this film focuses more on the dynamic between Deadpool and Wolverine. It’s essentially a story of two individuals who ordinarily wouldn’t want anything to do with each other, yet they’re now forced to embark on a lengthy journey together.”

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: Levy explained, “Creating a great game script involves combining elements of humor and conflict that make players laugh, experience tension, and even witness violent scenes. Yet, beneath the surface lies the ability to evoke strong emotions as we watch relationships develop, even those starting with hate.”

Get Ready For An Emotional Journey With Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool & Wolverine Director Reveals Why It Isn't Titled Deadpool 3

As a long-time fan of Marvel comics and movies, I’ve seen my fair share of superhero stories that leave me emotionally unmoved or even disappointed. But Kevin Feige’s description of “Deadpool & Wolverine” as the most wholesome R-rated film ever piques my interest in a way that few other Marvel projects have.

Feige expressed his viewpoint, stating, “We’ve been on the edge before, but I adore how we cover a wide range of genres and moods.” He continued, “People are focusing on this being our initial R-rated production. However, it is the third R-rated Deadpool film. So, we aimed to remain faithful to what Ryan Reynolds has established in those previous movies and didn’t intend to alter that.”

Hugh and Ryan have discussed this topic, and Feige believes that despite the film’s R-rating, profanity, and graphic content, it holds a deep emotional core. He refers to it as the most touching R-rated movie ever made. The story focuses on friendship, family, and the creation of new families. Although the film’s adult content may initially grab attention, Feige encourages viewers to look beyond that and appreciate the heartwarming aspects, which he considers more prominent than in the first two Deadpool installments.
