As a dedicated gamer and avid fan of both film and television, I’m beyond excited to learn that Dan Stevens has joined the cast of “The Terror: Devil in Silver.” His versatility as an actor never fails to impress me, from his refined portrayal of Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey to his captivating performance as David Haller in Legion. Stevens’ talent knows no bounds, and I have no doubt that he will bring a chilling intensity to the role of Pepper in this new horror anthology series.
Dan Stevens has struck a deal with the devil. The announcement from AMC Networks on Thursday revealed that the star of “Downton Abbey” and “Legion” will headline and produce executive for the upcoming third season of “The Terror: Devil in Silver.” Based on Victor LaValle’s 2012 book, this new installment of the horror anthology series from AMC is set inside a psychiatric hospital where Stevens plays an inmate.
Stevens takes on the role of Pepper, a common laborer who unfortunately ends up in New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital due to a string of misfortunes and a fiery temperament. In this institution, he encounters patients who are hostile towards him and doctors concealing dark secrets. He may even face the Devil himself. In this nightmarish world where nothing is as it seems, Pepper realizes that his only chance for release lies in confronting the malevolent force present within New Hyde’s walls. However, doing so might reveal that the most terrifying demons reside deep within him.
Stevens expressed his excitement in a statement: “I’m delighted to join ‘The Terror: Devil in Silver.’ This show is a chilling blend of psychological horror and riveting drama, certain to leave viewers on the edge of their seats. Victor LaValle, Christopher Cantwell, and the talented team have created a hauntingly unique world filled with devils and shadows. I’m eager to contribute an unforgettable performance that will reverberate powerfully throughout.”
In their new six-episode series for AMC, Cantwell (known for his work on “Halt and Catch Fire”) assumes the role of head writer and executive producer, collaborating with LaValle. additionally, Emmy-nominated director Karyn Kasuma (“Jennifer’s Body,” “Destroyer,” “Yellowjackets”) joins as an executive producer and will helm the direction for the first two episodes.
In addition to portraying Matthew Crawley for 25 episodes on ITV’s “Downton Abbey” and David Haller in three seasons of FX’s “Legion,” Stevens has an extensive resume. His work includes television versions of “Frankenstein” and “Dracula,” the Starz political thriller “Gaslit,” the Netflix horror anthology “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities,” and providing the voice of Korvo since season 4 on Hulu’s adult animated series “Solar Opposites.” The English actor has recently been seen in Universal’s “Abigail,” a vampire horror-thriller, and Warner Bros.’ “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” a blockbuster film.
I’ve always been captivated by The Terror series, with its chilling tales of a British naval expedition trapped in the icy waters while seeking the elusive Northwest Passage, and another story set in the haunting environment of a Japanese internment camp during World War II. These gripping seasons garnered massive attention, making AMC+’s most-watched library release within the first month after their debut last autumn. Now, in 2025, I can’t wait to dive into The Terror: Devil in Silver, with its promised six episodes premiering on both AMC and AMC+.
