Star Wars: The Acolyte’s Manny Jacinto Reflects on His Top Gun: Maverick Role Being Cut Down

Star Wars: The Acolyte's Manny Jacinto Reflects on His Top Gun: Maverick Role Being Cut Down

As a huge fan of Manny Jacinto, I can’t help but be in awe of this versatile and talented actor. He has captured our hearts once again with his mesmerizing performance in “Star Wars: The Acolyte” on Disney+. But Jacinto’s resume goes beyond just the small screen – he’s also graced the big screen, most notably in “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Manny Jacinto gained initial recognition for his endearing portrayal of Jason Mendoza on “The Good Place,” and now audiences are enamored with him once more due to his role in “Star Wars: The Acolyte.” Alongside his small-screen success, Jacinto made an appearance in the second biggest box office hit of 2022, “Top Gun: Maverick.” In this production, Jacinto portrayed Lt. Billy “Fritz” Avalone; however, his part was substantially reduced. Unfortunately, all of his spoken lines were eliminated, leaving him with a minor presence in the background of scenes. During an interview with GQ, Jacinto shared insights into his experience on “Top Gun.” He disclosed that he became aware of the reduction in his role only after the film’s release, and fondly recalled encouragement from fans.

Jacinto found it complimentary, yet unsurprising, that there was some reaction. He sensed on set which areas of the film would receive more focus from the crew, as they spent less time on ours.

As a person who has had the opportunity to be a part of a major film production, I can honestly say that it was an unforgettable experience. Despite any challenges or setbacks, the chance to witness such a massive machine in action and observe the expertise of someone like Tom Cruise up close is truly inspiring. It provides an energy and motivation that stays with you long after the production wraps up.

Is Top Gun 3 Happening?

As a long-time fan of Tom Cruise and the “Top Gun” franchise, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming third installment. The 36-year gap between the first and second movies was agonizingly long, but it looks like we won’t have to wait that long this time around. With the announcement of the new film earlier this year, my anticipation has been building up steadily.

Bruckheimer commented, “We’ve started discussing things, but it’s not a done deal yet. There are still steps to be taken.”

According to Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise is set to star in “Top Gun 3” based on a compelling story idea presented by director Joe Kosinski. Cruise expressed his interest in the project, and they are currently developing it. However, production may be delayed due to Cruise’s packed schedule as he works on “Mission: Impossible” at the moment and has another project lined up afterwards. They hope to create a screenplay that Cruise will love, which could lead to their return to the cockpit.
