The Boys Star Jack Quaid Reveals He Auditioned for James Gunn's Superman

As a huge fan of Jack Quaid and his acting abilities, it’s always exciting to hear about his audition experiences for major roles, especially one as iconic as Superman. Although he didn’t make it very far in the casting process for James Gunn’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the Man of Steel, I can’t help but wonder what could have been if Quaid had landed the role.

Jack Quaid, renowned for his role as Hughie Campbell on “The Boys,” shared in a recent chat that he tried out for James Gunn’s “Superman” production. Unfortunately, his self-tape submission was the extent of his involvement; he admitted not receiving any further communication from the filmmakers. It’s intriguing to consider that had Quaid landed the role, we could have seen him portray Superman in both “Superman” and “My Adventures With Superman,” despite their separate origins and Warner Bros.’ distinct management.

“On the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Quaid shared that he didn’t advance much in his auditions. He submitted a tape but didn’t receive any callbacks. It’s all right with him though.”

I, as a huge fan, can confirm that Quaid has mentioned knowing David Corenswet personally. Consequently, his discovery that Corenswet landed the coveted role as Superman didn’t come as an unexpected shock to me.

As a gamer, I’ve had the pleasure of crossing paths with David Corenswet. You know how it goes when you encounter someone exceptionally talented? It’s that feeling where you think to yourself, “Wow, if ever there was a need for another Superman, this guy’s got it covered.”

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that in this new Superman production, I’ll be taking on the role of the Man of Steel myself! And who better to play my trusted partner Lois Lane than Rachel Brosnahan? Our story remains shrouded in mystery, but I can tell you that I’ve grown accustomed to my duties as the world’s protector. Plus, when things get tough, I won’t be alone – I’ll have a fantastic team by my side!

As an assistant to Gunn, I’m thrilled to share that we’re bringing together some talented individuals for the project. I’ll be working closely with cinematographer Henry Braham, whose impressive resume includes “The Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3.” Our production design will be in the capable hands of Beth Mickle, who has made her mark on “The Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3.” Judianna Makovsky, costume designer for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” and “Avengers: Endgame,” will be crafting our characters’ wardrobes. Art director David Scott, with credits in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” is on board for set design. Casting is being handled by John Papsidera, whose expertise can be seen in “Yellowstone” and “Oppenheimer.”

DC Studios’s Superman is flying into theaters on July 11, 2025.
