As a long-time fan of British television with a particular affinity for shows that explore the Black experience, I was absolutely thrilled when I heard about Supacell. Having grown up in London myself, I could relate to the gritty yet vibrant world that the show presented.
The new Netflix original series “Supacell,” which features a black leading cast as superheroes, has become extremely popular and has stayed in the top 10 rankings for several weeks. Of course, with such success, viewers are curious if a second season will be produced.
He expressed his desire for there to be at least three seasons, stating, “We’ll observe the outcome of the first season. However, I’ve made it abundantly clear that I aim for a minimum of three seasons.”
“He shared that he has a well-conceived narrative for a series lasting three seasons in his mind. Although there’s room for expansion, he’s currently clear about how the story unfolds until the third season.”
“He pointed out that in the history of British science fiction TV productions, which do not feature many Black actors to begin with, how often has a show included a predominantly Black cast?”
“Despite removing the UK and considering options in the United States, you might still ponder over characters like Black Panther or Black Lightning. The responsibility lies there, let’s admit it. It feels as though… why isn’t black representation more common in science fiction and space genres?”
He expressed optimistically, “I hope this show is a success and marks the start of more to come.”
Featuring talented actors such as Tosin Cole from Doctor Who, Adelayo Adedayo of The Responder, and Calvin Demba in The Rig, this production showcases some exceptional acting abilities.
After the thrilling cliffhanger finale of Supacell, here’s what we currently understand about a potential second season.

Will there be a Supacell season 2?
As of now, Netflix has not announced a renewal of Supacell for season 2.
The streamer typically holds back on announcing renewals for new series, preferring to observe viewer feedback and ratings first.
The broadcaster sometimes terminates popular new programs unexpectedly, but let’s hope for the best this time around!
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled that Supacell’s creator, Rapman, has hinted at more stories in development. Regarding the first season, he described it as akin to “Batman Begins” for him. In other words, just like how Batman Begins sets the stage for the Caped Crusader’s epic journey, Supacell’s first season is merely the beginning for Rapman.
“You’ve got to see where it goes next to see who these people really are.”
When could a potential Supacell season 2 be released?
If Supacellseason 2 hasn’t been officially announced, then we don’t have a definite release date for the possible second installment.
As a big fan, I’m excited to share that the filming for the first season took place from July to December 2022. This means there’s a strong possibility of having a quick turnaround between seasons, potentially making it an ideal transition from season 1 to the anticipated season 2.

With filming completed in just seven months, there’s reason to believe we’ll be able to watch the show again soon. However, keep in mind that post-production took longer than expected, leading to a delayed release of season 1 until mid-2024. Thus, it might still take some time before the new episodes make their way back to our screens.
Watch this space for updates.
Who could return for a potential Supacell season 2?

Regarding a potential second season, we’d like to have the main cast members back, and there might be room for some new characters as well.
The Supacell cast that we’d expect to see in a potential season 2 would be as follows:
- Tosin Cole as Michael Lasaki
- Yasmin Monet Prince as Veronica
- Eddie Marsan as Ray
- Nadine Mills as Sabrina
- Eric Kofi-Abrefa as Andre
- Calvin Demba as Rodney
- Josh Tedeku as Josh
- Rayxia Ojo as Sharleen
- Giacomo Mancini as Spud
- Michael Salami as Gabriel
- Travis Jay as John
Based on the finale of season 1 where gunshots were aimed at her car, it’s uncertain if Adelayo Adedayo will reappear as Dionne in future episodes. We’ll have to wait and see.
What could a potential Supacell season 2 be about?
From my perspective as a movie critic, pondering the potential themes for a hypothetical second installment of Supacell, the first season concluded in a suspenseful manner with bullets piercing Dionne’s vehicle and Michael powerless to rewind time to shield her.
Later on, I found myself joining the others at Onyx. I shared with them that I intended to travel to the future in order to uncover the truth and seek retribution against those who had caused us harm.

Simultaneously, at The Organization, Krazy was discovered and given treatment – only for Victoria to eliminate him afterwards due to his inability to help her acquire Michael and the group.
As they depart, she crisply tells Ray that he disappointed her, and from now on, things will be handled according to her plans.
So, it certainly leaves the door wide open for much more to be explored.
In Season 1, there was a looming threat that Dionne, Michael’s partner, might not survive. This pressure pushed Michael to his limits and, alongside four other Black residents from South London, they unexpectedly gained superpowers.

As a passionate moviegoer, I’ve been captivated by how the characters in this series evolve throughout their journey. They struggle to come to terms with their unique abilities and embark on new journeys, leading to unexpected and significant plot developments.
In a recent conversation, Rapman expressed his frustration with how origin stories of superpowers are often overlooked in shows, leaving him puzzled and unsatisfied. He added, “It’s as if the creators take the easy way out by not explaining where these abilities come from.”
When George Floyd was tragically taken from us, I was working on this project. The sadness and grief that followed his death were palpable. I felt compelled to use my platform to bring joy and positivity to the Black community during such a difficult time. I knew of a young girl who frequently ended up in the hospital due to her battle with sickle cell disease, a condition that disproportionately affects Black people. Her resilience and strength were an inspiration to me throughout the creation process.
He explained, “I believed this would bring attention to it, for anyone observing – even if it wasn’t factual, it was like, ‘Wow, I’m being recognized! And suppose my child developed superpowers from that, how cool would that be?’ It’s simply a way of feeling acknowledged, and it holds significance for me.”
“I merely ask that you finish watching it, and I’m curious to know your thoughts on each twist and turn, along with how the ending affected you.”
I put my heart and soul into creating this show, not just for anyone to abandon it at the midpoint in favor of something else. Here’s hoping the world appreciates it as much as I do.
