A History of Kim Kardashian and Ivanka Trump’s Close Friendship

As an obsessed fan of both Kim Kardashian and Ivanka Trump, I can’t help but be captivated by their unique friendship that has blossomed over the years. It all started at the Met Gala back in 2014 when they first met, and since then, their bond has only grown stronger.

When Ivanka Trump shared a photo of her daughter Arabella’s Taylor Swift-themed birthday cake on social media, Kim Kardashian, the founder of SKIMS, wasn’t directly commenting on the cake itself. However, she didn’t hesitate to send a warm message to Ivanka, expressing her admiration for the beautiful celebration and wishing Arabella a happy 13th birthday.

After Kim’s Instagram post wishing Happy Birthday to Arabella on Ivanka’s account on July 17th, their friendship became more open and apparent through this latest display of affection between them.

Since Kim made her first visit to the White House in 2018 for discussions on criminal justice reform with then-President Donald Trump, arranged by Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, there has been significant focus on the women’s social engagements.

Though, really, they started bonding in the most likely of settings.

Due to Kim living in Los Angeles and Ivanka residing in New York, their social circles wouldn’t have frequently overlapped, despite their frequent travel.

Their friendship goes back to at least May 2014. This is when they met at the Met Gala, with Ivanka accompanied by Jared, and Kim escorted by her then-fiancé, Kanye West. The Met Gala took place just a few weeks before their extravagant Italian wedding.

According to Ivanka’s interview with People back then, nothing at the Met Gala compared to the excitement of meeting Idina Menzel for Arabella. (Idina Menzel is well-known for playing Elsa in “Frozen.”)

It’s only logical that the two women, who are both mothers and entrepreneurs with influential family backgrounds, would have much to discuss between them.

By the time Kim began law school in 2018, she had already become deeply involved in the case of Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. With her newfound legal knowledge and determination, she knew whom to approach to bring Alice’s cause to the attention of the president. Remarkably, he granted clemency to Alice in 2020 by commuting her sentence and issuing a full pardon.

“Kim expressed her delight in March 2020 to the New York Times following a White House visit, stating, ‘I enjoy observing the various prospective candidates debating criminal justice matters.’ She is open to collaborating with any presidential team.”

It’s true that Kim had a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris in April. This occurred just a day after President Joe Biden granted clemency to 16 individuals, pardoning 11 and commuting the sentences of five others, all of whom had been convicted of nonviolent drug offenses.

As I observe the current events unfolding, I’ve noticed an intriguing development in Kim’s friendship with Ivanka. Following Ivanka’s departure from Washington D.C. after her father lost the 2020 election, she moved to Florida and expressed on Instagram in November 2022 that she cherished her father deeply but had no intentions of re-entering politics as he mounted another presidential campaign. Regardless, their bond has continued to blossom in these changing circumstances.

Ivanka sat next to Kim, who was celebrating her 43rd birthday in the fall at the popular Beverly Hills restaurant Funke.

“Feeling incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing group of friends!” Kim expressed in her post, accompanied by a series of photos from the night, one of which featured Ivanka. This particular image sparked much discussion among commenters, leading many to interpret it as a sign of Ivanka’s re-emergence into the celebrity scene she had previously been a part of before her father assumed the presidency.

At her intimate gathering in Miami, Kim had the chance to mingle with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, the owner of The Washington Post and founder of Amazon, as well as Hailey Bieber, Kimora Lee Simmons, and other relatives from the Kardashian clan.

On October 30th, when Ivanka turned 42, Kim took to Instagram Stories to wish her “the most thoughtful and sweetest soul” a happy birthday. She shared an old photo of them all cozily relaxing together in loungewear and pajamas with their daughters.

“Can’t wait to celebrate you asap!” Kim added. “Our babies are so small here.”

In December, Ivanka attended the star-studded opening of Fontainebleu Las Vegas with Kim and took a seat next to Kim and Kendall Jenner during Justin Timberlake’s performance.

When Ivanka shared photos from their glam night out, Kim didn’t comment but tossed up a “like.”

I couldn’t help but leave a cheerful birthday wish for Jared as I came across the adorable family photos Ivanka shared in his honor on Instagram. Happy 43rd birthday, Jared! These images truly bring a smile to my face.

Recently, Arabella received a birthday greeting from Kim Kardashian, complete with a lovingly crafted heart-shaped cake. The cake was adorned with the poignant lyric from Taylor Swift’s song “Blank Space”: “Boys only crave love when it’s painful.”

Ivanka wrote, “Best cake for my favorite swiftie.”
