Cobra Kai star admits Hilary Swank cameo “would be interesting”

As a huge fan of the Karate Kid franchise, I can’t help but be thrilled at the possibility of Hilary Swank making a cameo appearance in the final season of Cobra Kai. Her portrayal of Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid may not have been as iconic as Daniel LaRusso’s journey, but her impressive acting career since then has more than earned her a place in my heart and in the Miyagi-verse.

Ralph Macchio, an actor on “Cobra Kai,” has spoken out about speculation that Hilary Swank, who starred in “The Next Karate Kid,” might make a surprise appearance in the last season of the Netflix program.

In the initial three Karate Kid movies, Macchio’s character Daniel LaRusso played the role of the young hero. Later, the lead passed to Swank’s Julie Pierce, who received training from Pat Morita’s character, Mr. Miyagi.

Unfortunately, The Next Karate Kid didn’t perform well critically or financially compared to the initial movies. This setback put the franchise on hold until the 2010 revival featuring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

Despite this, supporters of what’s known as the “Miyagi-verse” have shown enthusiasm for giving Swank a second chance at portraying the character. Notably, she earned two Academy Awards for her performances in “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby.”

Interviewed by Entertainment Tonight about potential appearances of cast members from the larger Karate Kid universe in the upcoming sixth season of Cobra Kai, Macchio hinted cryptically: “I’m unable to disclose names, but there could be a few surprises.”

He added: “I’d like to see some people with smaller roles take on greater responsibilities.”

I can’t help but admit, when asked if I preferred Swank among the cameos, I responded with a resounding “yes, indeed!” Such a collaboration would surely add an intriguing layer to the project.

Last year, there were whispers that Swank might make an appearance in “Cobra Kai” as rumors circulated. The show’s co-creators, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, shared with Deadline their admiration for Swank and hinted that any character from the “Miyagi-verse” could be included in the last season.

As a passionate filmgoer, I’m thrilled to share that in Cobra Kai season 6, Miyagi-Do students and I embark on an exhilarating journey to the renowned international karate tournament, Sekai Taikai. Here, we’ll cross paths with some of the most formidable opponents we’ve ever faced!

Alongside Macchio and his Karate Kid companion Zabka, the ensemble of Cobra Kai additionally includes Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Peyton List, and Tanner Buchanan.
