As a long-time fan of professional wrestling and someone who has followed Konosuke Takeshita’s journey since his days in DDT Pro-Wrestling, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and pride as I watch him make his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut at this year’s G1 Climax 34.
At this year’s G1 Climax 34, Konosuke Takeshita, a cherished AEW pro wrestling figure, made his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut. This annual competition features multiple pools of wrestlers who earn points based on their victories to determine the winners of each group and advance to the next round. In the previous year, Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito faced off in the final match, with the latter taking home the trophy. This tournament offers wrestlers a platform to impress and demonstrate their abilities to fans. With Okada and Will Ospreay departing Japan for AEW in 2024, no one has emerged as a notable contender in NJPW yet.
In this year’s tournament, there are several young rising stars such as Callum Newman, Shota Umino, and Takeshita. Let’s hope they make an impact and become the new faces of Japan’s wrestling scene. On the opening night of the competition, Takeshita appeared to take the lead by defeating Yota Tsuji in Block B. He made a strong statement with his victory, using the Blue Thunder Bomb and Raging Fire as finishing moves against the previous NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Champion.

In his interview with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Takeshita expressed his strong desire to demonstrate his skills and strength, having spent the past three years in the United States as a Japanese wrestler. He emphasized the uniqueness of his wrestling style and wanted it to be truly appreciated by the audience. Additionally, he mentioned that holding a championship title is one of his goals, as he last held one when he parted ways with DDT in 2022 and joined AEW.
