Alien: Romulus Star Reveals Hilarious Advice Given By Ridley Scott

As a die-hard fan of the Alien franchise, I am beyond excited for the release of Alien: Romulus next month. The fact that Ridley Scott is back as a producer and providing valuable insights to the new team brings a sense of nostalgia and trust in the direction this film will take. It’s fascinating to see how the franchise has evolved over the years, with different directors adding their unique perspectives while maintaining the core essence of the terrifying alien creatures.

The upcoming movie titled “Alien: Romulus” is set to hit theaters next month, marking the first instalment in the franchise since Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” was released in 2017. Over the decades, Scott has directed three films within the “Alien” series, including the initial one which came out in 1979. Various other notable directors have also worked on this franchise over the years, such as James Cameron and David Fincher. Now, the director of “Evil Dead” (2013), Fede Alvarez, is taking over for the latest addition. Scott serves as the film’s producer, allowing him to offer guidance to those involved in the project. Recently, David Jonsson, who portrays Andy, disclosed the amusing advice he received from Scott.

In an interview with Rolling Stone UK, Jonsson expressed it this way: “He told me not to be lousy, more or less. I’m not exaggerating when I say this, but the studio, Fede, and the entire team had complete faith in me, and I truly required that trust.”

It’s typical of Scott to speak honestly, as he did a few years back when he openly criticized superhero films, causing quite a stir.

What Is Alien: Romulus About?

As a longtime fan of the Alien franchise, I’m excited to share my perspective on the upcoming project, Alien: Romulus. Based on what I’ve read so far, this new addition to the series seems to be carving out its own unique identity rather than simply continuing the storyline from where we left off in previous films.

He shared an unconventional idea, wanting to explore a fresh perspective: focusing on non-expert or adult characters for his story. He found appeal in having ordinary people as the main characters, who are like the audience in their lack of space experience. With professionals, we’re left playing catch-up. But when dealing with young characters, they too grapple with the unknowns and challenges, just like us. In essence, he wanted to bridge the gap between storyteller and audience by making the characters relatable and authentic.

He went on to explain, “As children, their parents likely worked together on the same ship. This is how they first met and formed a deep connection. Since they are each other’s only family, they have a rich history and behave more like surrogate siblings in some cases, even sharing living quarters at times. The movie explores themes of siblinghood extensively, with the relationship between the characters being interconnected with the larger storyline involving Romulus and Weyland-Yutani.”

In the sci-fi series “Alien: Romulus,” Cailee Spaeny plays the role of Priscilla, David Jonsson is Agatha Christie’s Murder is Easy’s actor, Archie Renaux stars as Shadow and Bone’s character, Isabela Merced portrays The Last of Us’ actress, Spike Fearn appears as Aftersun’s performer, and Aileen Wu is also part of the cast. Fede Jlvarez directs this production, having co-written the screenplay with his regular partner Rodo Sayagues. They based their work on characters originally developed by Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe).

Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16th.
