Agatha All Along Star Aubrey Plaza Tears ACL at WNBA Weekend

As a dedicated gamer and basketball enthusiast, I can’t help but be thrilled about the growing popularity of the WNBA and the excitement surrounding its All-Star Weekend. Yesterday’s game between Team WNBA and USA Basketball was a must-watch event for me, with stars like Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Britney Griner taking center stage. The energy was electric, especially with the unexpected team-up of rivals Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), commonly referred to as the WNBA, is experiencing unprecedented popularity, with large crowds turning out for its all-star weekend. WNBA Weekend was particularly well-attended, and on yesterday’s agenda was an intriguing matchup between Team WNBA and USA Basketball. This event marked the departure of the U.S. Women’s National Team towards the 2024 Paris Olympics and brought fans the thrilling sight of rival players Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese joining forces on Team WNBA. Some of the biggest names in basketball, including Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and Britney Griner, graced the court. Notable attendees included Aubrey Plaza, a celebrated Emmy-nominated actor known for her work on “The White Lotus” and “Parks and Rec,” who unfortunately injured her ACL while playing a game of “knockout” at the Phoenix Mercury training facility.

Yesterday at the WNBA All-Star game on ABC, Plaza was seen using crutches and an ice pack on her right knee. It’s unfortunate that this wasn’t her first experience with tearing her ACL. In a recent episode of Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird’s podcast, “A Touch More,” which aired on Friday, Plaza disclosed that her initial ACL injury occurred during a women’s recreational league game in Los Angeles. She shared an intriguing detail that she had disguised herself to play with her sister, Natalie, on the same team.

During the game, I attempted a shot in the middle, but unfortunately, I injured my ACL on the court while wearing a wig. This is quite unfortunate as it’s similar to the worst-case scenario – I was trying to blend in, yet ended up severely damaging my knee instead. (Deadline) – Plaza shared.

As a devoted gamer, I can’t help but feel for Plaza having a tough time this weekend. But hey, we gamers are an optimistic bunch! So instead of dwelling on her misfortunes, we’re all excitedly looking forward to her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. You see, Plaza previously brought the Shadow King to life in “Legion,” but now she’s leveling up and becoming a key member of Agatha Harkness’ (Kathryn Hahn) coven in “Agatha All Along.” Let’s cheer her on as she embarks on this new adventure!

Besides Hahn and Plaza, “Agatha All Along” features an impressive cast that includes Joe Locke, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, Debra Jo Rupp, and Patti LuPone. The show is overseen by executive producers Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos, and Jac Schaeffer. Here’s a brief summary of the series:

In “Agatha All Along,” the once formidable Agatha Harkness encounters a turning point when a suspicious goth teenager assists her in shattering a warped enchantment. Intrigued, she agrees to accompany him on the Witches’ Road, an arduous journey of trials that bestows a missing power upon a survivor. Agatha and this enigma form an unlikely alliance, rallying a motley crew, and venture forth on their treacherous descent into The Road.

Marvel Television’s series “Agatha All Along” is set to start airing on September 18 at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time or 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The first two episodes will be available on Disney+ at that time, followed by the release of one new episode each week thereafter.
