Towards the close of the fifth episode in the second season of “House of the Dragon,” Rhaenyra initiated a scheme to identify the dragonseeds, or individuals capable of taming the dragons residing beneath Dragonstone: Seasmoke, Vermithor, and Silverwing. Unbeknownst to her, it appears that a fourth dragon will factor into the ensuing turmoil, and its emergence on the series was hinted at during last weekend’s broadcast.
Rhaena was dispatched by Rhaenyra to the Vale to care for her two youngest sons and her newborn dragon, in addition to a hoard of dragon eggs. During her stay, she stumbled upon a charred patch of grass dotted with the remains of singed sheep. The evidence pointed to a dragon as the culprit, and Rhaena was later informed that a untamed dragon resided nearby in the Vale. Some doubted its taming potential.
Sheepstealer and Nettles
As an avid fan, I can’t help but be intrigued by the subtle hint that this wild dragon, with its penchant for devouring sheep, is none other than Sheepstealer. This dragon, one of the four dragons bound to a dragonseed and fighting for Rhaenyra, has left fans guessing as to when we’ll see its rider make an appearance on House of the Dragon.
In Season 2 of “House of the Dragon,” Addam, Hugh, and Ulf have joined the cast, but Nettles, a beloved character from George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” has been noticeably missing. Nettles is an unrelated yet determined woman, without a family or permanent residence, who gains influence after forming a connection with Sheepstealer. With the arrival of the other dragonseed characters, fans have wondered if Nettles would make an appearance.
After Sheepstealer is subjected to teasing, two potential storylines emerge. One possibility is that Nettles may soon make an entrance, forming a connection with the dragon and thereby integrating herself into the narrative. An alternate theory suggests that Rhaena’s storyline could be altered to incorporate aspects of Nettles’, making her the one to bond with Sheepstealer instead. Given the ongoing speculation about Rhaena’s inability to form a dragon bond thus far, this shift could prove intriguing.
Nettles hasn’t made an appearance on “House of the Dragon” yet, but the latest episode on Sunday strongly hinted that Sheepstealer is present, and there will undeniably be four dragon seeds involved in the upcoming conflict.
