Who is Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon and who plays him?

As a seasoned movie critic with a deep appreciation for fantasy dramas and a soft spot for complex characters, I am thrilled to see the introduction of new faces in House of the Dragon’s second season. The Dance of Dragons civil war is heating up, and among Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy) allies is the legendary sailor and Lord of the Tides himself, Steve Toussaint’s portrayal of Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka The Sea Snake.

There are several new faces set to be introduced in House of the Dragon season 2.

As a movie buff, I’m excited to share that in the fantastical world of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” the civil war between rival claimants to the Iron Throne heats up. I, for one, am deeply invested in the unfolding drama as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), my favorite character, and her half-brother King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) clash. Their supporters, known as the Blacks and the Greens respectively, add fuel to the fire of this intense conflict. The Dance of Dragons is in full swing!

The renowned mariner and Titan of the Seas, Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as “The Sea Snake,” is among Queen Rhaenyra’s loyal allies, represented on screen by Steve Toussaint.

However, Lord Corlys has a formidable new ally of his own this season…

Who is Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon and who plays him?

I, Alyn of Hull, am a seafaring man hailing from Driftmark. During my tenure with the esteemed Velaryon fleet in the treacherous waters of the Stepstones, I managed to save the life of none other than the noble Lord Corlys Velaryon.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Abubakar Salim discussed Alyn’s character in the series: “Unlike other characters who obsess over joining the elite class, Alyn remains indifferent. He simply focuses on doing his job.”

I’ve seen people throughout my life who seem to have it all – power, wealth, and influence. They sit comfortably in their positions of authority, looking down upon those they deem inferior. But there was once a man who didn’t care for such accolades or titles. He knew what he excelled at and what he desired in life. His experiences shaped him into someone who valued authenticity over superficial success.

In the upcoming series, my connection with Lord Corlys and my brother Addam of Hull will hold significant importance.

In the sixth episode of the second season, it is largely revealed that Alyn and his brother Addam are indeed the illegitimate sons of Lord Corlys. This fact had been suggested earlier through hints. Notably, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) was privy to this knowledge.

Previously, Rhaenys and Alyn had exchanged words, subtly suggesting that they were privy to Lord Corlys’s past indiscretions.

A more hopeful outlook on the brothers’ future situation holds true for Alyn, as he anticipates earning his father’s approval.

As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, a 31-year-old actor hailing from Britain, have been recognized as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit! Additionally, I’ve been humbled by the honor of being nominated for a British Academy Games Award. My dedication and hard work on Assassin’s Creed Origins, specifically my voice acting contributions, have resonated with industry experts and fellow game enthusiasts alike.

Salim appears in various productions including the HBO Max show “Raised by Wolves,” the series “Jamestown” and “Fortitude,” as well as the movie “Napoleon.”

What happens to Alyn of Hull in the book Fire & Blood?

Who is Alyn of Hull in House of the Dragon and who plays him?

Alyn and Addam, sons of Marilda from Hull, have careers as sailors. Being bastards with Valyrian lineage, they are referred to as ‘descendants of dragons’.

In the novel, Alyn gets enlisted to join the Blacks’ side in the civil conflict. Later, he endeavors to learn dragon-riding but ultimately falls short, leaving him with scars.

Despite this, Alyn gains significance in the Dance of Dragons when Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen grants them legitimacy at the behest of Lord Corlys Velaryon. As a result, Alyn is bestowed with Driftmark as his inheritance and is renamed Alyn Velaryon.

In a well-known work of fiction, multiple possibilities are put forward for why Lord Corlys made the demand, with the seemingly plausible theory being that Alyn and Addam are illegitimate sons born to him prior to or during his union with Princess Rhaenys Targaryen.

Will this be the explanation for Alyn’s importance in the series?
