Who is Addam of Hull in House of the Dragon and who plays him?

As a long-time fan of George R.R. Martin’s intricately woven tales of Westeros and Essos, I have eagerly anticipated the arrival of new faces in the world of House of the Dragon. With the second season underway, we are introduced to yet another intriguing character: Addam of Hull, portrayed by the talented Irish actor Clinton Liberty.

In the second episode of House of the Dragon’s new season, another fresh actor makes an appearance among the cast.

HBO’s fantasy drama series carries on telling the tale of the Targaryen family feud, called the “Dance of Dragons,” which is detailed in George RR Martin’s book “Fire and Blood.” In simpler terms, the show explores the civil war among the Targaryens that was previously documented in Martin’s writing.

In the initial phase, the Greens, who backed King Aegon II Targaryen (played by Tom Glynn-Carney), and the Blacks, representing Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), faced off against each other.

So, where will new arrival Addam of Hull fit in, and who plays him in House of the Dragon?

Who is Addam of Hull in House of the Dragon?

As a devoted movie buff, I’d put it this way: I’m a seafaring fellow hailing from Driftmark, called Addam of Hull. My cherished elder sibling goes by the name Alyn of Hull, or Abubakar Salim, as some may know him.

Due to Alyn’s brave act of rescuing Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) during the clashes in the Stepstones, Addam may gain favor with this influential figure and could potentially align himself with House Velaryon, supporting Queen Rhaenyra in future battles.

In episode 6, it’s made clear what was strongly suggested before: Addam and Alyn are indeed the bastard sons of Lord Corlys, as known to Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best).

Although Addam harbors significant doubts about Lord Corlys’s true intentions regarding their inclusion in House Velaryon, he remains skeptical that they will ever achieve such recognition.

Addam also appears to already have been chosen as a potential rider of the dragon Seasmoke.

In the series, Addam appears to be the younger brother of Alyn.

Actor Clinton Liberty portrays Addam of Hull in House of the Dragon.

A 26-year-old Irish actor named Liberty has gained recognition for portraying characters in the shows “Holding” and “Normal People.” He also made an appearance in the movie “This Christmas,” which was produced by Sky Cinema.

What happens to Addam of Hull in the book Fire & Blood?

In the novel, Addam of Hull is depicted as the elder brother of Alyn, and they are known to be Lord Corlys Velaryon’s illegitimate children by Marilda of Hull. However, there are claims that they are actually the sons of Ser Laenor Velaryon, Lord Corlys’ late son instead.

As a moviegoer who’s deeply into the lore of this fantasy world, I’d put it like this: Being regarded as outcasts with Valyrian ancestry, my two favorite characters are often referred to as “dragonseed bastards.”

As I delved into the pages of this engrossing tale, I found myself drawn into the world of the civil war. When the opportunity arose for me to join the Blacks’ cause, I didn’t hesitate. But little did I know that my journey was far from over.

Lord Corlys requests that Rhaenyra officially recognize and grant legitimacy to both Hull brothers. As a result, the eldest brother will be named Addam Velaryon, inheriting Driftmark and assuming the title of Lord of the Tides.

Based on the show, it seems that Addam is the younger sibling. Maybe some developments will occur in the future.

In the United Kingdom, you can watch the second season of “House of the Dragon” on Sky Atlantic and NOW starting from June 17. For information on how to subscribe to Sky TV and enjoy this show, please check out the details.
