As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for complex character studies and twisting plotlines, I was completely captivated by The Jetty from the very first episode. The way the series subtly unraveled the mystery surrounding Amy Knightley’s disappearance while delving into Jenna Coleman’s Ember Manning’s deteriorating mental health was nothing short of masterful storytelling.
***MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE JETTY AHEAD***
Before The Jetty reaches its series finale, three major mysteries remain unsolved: Who was responsible for setting fire to the boat house, and what were their motives? Which person took the life of Weruche Opia, the podcaster probing local underage abuse allegations and Amy Knightley’s disappearance? Lastly, what happened to the missing teenager, who went missing 17 years ago with no trace since?
Jenna Coleman’s character, Ember Manning, was getting closer to uncovering the truth – but at the cost of her own mental wellbeing. After discovering that her late husband Malachy (Tom Glynn-Carney) had been having an affair with Amy and was with her on the night she went missing.
The detective was haunted by the ugly truth, but that was just the beginning.

The Jetty ending explained: Who killed Amy?
In the final scene, an unexpected revelation unfolded: Amy was indeed deceased.
After being given drugs by Mack for her birthday, Ember got behind the wheel while impaired and tragically took the life of another person, who unfortunately was She.
Mack persuaded Arj (Matthew McNulty), who was under the influence while riding in the car with them, to believe that he was in charge of safeguarding Ember instead of the truth, which he eventually accepted as reality.
After being hidden in the boat house for 17 long years, Amy’s body was kept undisturbed until renovation work started. This necessitated the excavation of her remains, leading Arj to burn down the property to destroy any potential traces.
Later on, Riz appeared and a private investigator hired by her found a bone fragment in the debris. This discovery led Arj to act impulsively. However, it was eventually revealed that Arj had committed wrongdoings, which Ember brought to light.
It’s intriguing how the underdog, whom we wanted to win, ended up doing something wrong instead. Surprisingly, Arj, who appeared to be the good guy, was the one who committed the unfortunate act. I found that twist engaging and enjoyable.
Archie Renaux, in a light-hearted manner, mentioned that he thought he was well-versed with the scripts as Ember’s junior colleague Hitch, but later admitted, “I had no inkling, not at all.”
He commented: “I’m drawn to this because of the way it portrays the ability of our memory and minds to rewrite past events for self-preservation and healing from painful experiences.”
Renaux continued, expressing that Arj’s strong bonds with Ember and Mack add an extra layer of sadness to the upcoming revelation.
He suggested that if an unidentified killer had been behind the actions instead, it would have benefited Ember more in some way.
Additionally, it’s noteworthy that Ember personally invested immense time, energy, and feelings in uncovering the truth, yet found herself retracing her steps and returning to her own origins.
“It does make it more heartbreaking.”
As a movie lover, I can imagine myself thinking: “Perhaps her mom could comment on the situation. But since it’s only her and Caitlin who know this secret, there won’t be any consequences to worry about. However, if she confides in someone else, then it becomes public knowledge, leaving us with no control over its fate.”
Stokes added that people often daydream about how they would react in certain circumstances. Nevertheless, he pointed out, experience shows that it’s only when one is actually faced with such a situation that one can truly tell what one would do.
I believe each person navigates their own unique experiences, and it’s challenging for others to fully grasp how we’ll handle specific situations.
