As a huge fan of “Beverly Hills, 90210” growing up, I was absolutely shocked and saddened to hear about Shannen Doherty’s passing. Her role as Brenda Walsh was an integral part of my childhood, and the fact that we became friends years later is something I could hardly believe at times.
Shannen Doherty’s loved ones are finding comfort in remembering exactly who she was.
Following the actress’s passing from breast cancer at age 53 on July 13, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen’s costar on “Charmed,” paid a heartfelt tribute to her deceased friend, incorporating a nod to Shannen’s wit.
“A week has passed, and it feels like an eternity,” Holly wrote in her July 21 Instagram caption, accompanying a video montage of the Heathers actor. “I spent the entire day searching for a specific photo, only to find almost every other image instead.”
After that, she joked, “Shannen vowed to harass me, but I assumed she’d be preoccupied with bothering others initially. Sadly, I’m certain it will surface unexpectedly when I’m least prepared. My only respite.”
The next day, the former Pretty Little Liars actress pondered over one of the most challenging aspects of her friend’s passing.
Holly expressed her thoughts on the July 22 episode of the “Charmed” rewatch podcast, “House of Halliwell,” through tears. She believed that the person in question had done her best with the time available, but we had all assumed there was more time left. The unfortunate reality is that we harbored grand plans for this year, and she hadn’t anticipated her departure so soon.
In her own words, “It’s surprisingly clichéd until it actually occurs to you, but you often believe you have more time than you truly do. Life can take unexpected turns in the blink of an eye.”
“Despite recording several episodes for the ‘Charmed’ rewatch podcast, Shanzen was set to appear on numerous more episodes of ‘House of Halliwell.’ Notably, some of these episodes were scheduled to include her successor, Rose McGowan. It’s disheartening to think that she was eagerly anticipating this collaboration.” – Holly shared her thoughts. “She was genuinely excited about rewatching the episodes alongside Rose.”
Although Holly regrets that Shannen couldn’t complete their podcast project, she remains thankful for the precious moments they experienced during its creation.
“The last time we met, we reminisced our past by watching the first two episodes of a show as if we were teenagers once again,” Holly explained. “We did this in her office prior to recording, and since then, I’ve had some time to think, and things have turned out well.”
A 50-year-old person added that the podcast brought significant joy to Shannen, as Brian Krause, another host of “House of Halliwell” and Shannen’s “Charmed” co-star, had previously expressed.
“Holly recalled her friend’s genuine excitement. She was thrilled to be present and eagerly looked forward to rewatching it, expressing her joy repeatedly. Her enthusiasm for ‘Charmed’ was unmatched, as if she were a devoted fan immersed in the performance.”

As an obsessed fan, I can’t help but ponder over how one could possibly encapsulate three decades of cherished friendship in a mere caption. Buffy expressed this sentiment on Instagram last July 15th. It’s a bitter-sweet pain that gnaws at us because the depth of our connection was so profoundly beautiful. I keep reminding myself that it hurts this much now only because we shared an abundance of love. Thank you for your outpouring of kind words and support during these trying times. The heartfelt messages about how important @theshando was to each one of us serve as a testament to the indelible mark she left on our lives. Let’s honor her legacy by continuing to celebrate the love we shared with her.
The actress, who portrayed Kelly Taylor on “90210,” shared on Instagram her ongoing sadness over the passing of her long-term friend Shannen, whom I’ve always referred to as an incredibly strong individual. Our bond was genuine and heartfelt. Despite being portrayed as adversaries on the show, Brenda Walsh and I, the friendship behind the scenes was founded on respect and admiration for each other.
Shannen, she said, “was courageous, passionate, determined and very loving and generous.”
In the depths of my being, I’ll cherish the memories of her and keep her close to my heart, a devoted admirer pledging to honor her deeply. My soul grieves for her beloved family, including Bowie the dog, and all those whose lives she touched so profoundly.
In her Instagram post, Tori expressed, “We understood each other deeply even if I haven’t found the right words to express it yet. That’s what truly counts.” (with a selfie of herself and Shannen and several broken heart emojis)
“I’m deeply upset to learn that my friend Shannen, who played Brenda Walsh’s twin brother Brandon on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’, has passed away. Her energy was incredible, and I will dearly miss her. My thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult period.”
“My sister Shan from ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’, wrote on Instagram: ‘You have always been there for me, loving me unconditionally. “You were so young, yet so sad,” the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum and ex-SAG-AFTRA head expressed on Instagram. “Rest in peace, Shannon. I believe Luke is waiting for you with welcoming embraces.”
The former actress-turned-therapist, who is known for portraying Cindy Walsh, the mother of Shannen Doherty’s character Brenda and Jason Priestley’s character Brandon in the TV show, expressed her shock and sadness on Instagram upon hearing about the passing of her onscreen daughter.
“She had traveled quite a remarkable path,” she penned down. “Her time with us was brief. Yet, despite the impending end, she remained authentic and displayed immense bravery and resilience. May her soul find tranquility in eternal peace.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she openly acknowledged the intricacy of Shannen’s and her own relationship. At its heart, however, was someone she held in great respect and admiration. An actress of immense talent, Shannen was cherished by countless fans, and her absence leaves a significant void. My sympathies go out to all those who treasured her.
The actress, who took over from Shannen Doherty on Charmed in 2001, commented on her last Instagram post: “A brave and noble spirit,” she wrote. “You were such a fighter. Your father is embracing his precious daughter now.”
She went on, expressing her deep love towards “your mom, your dog, and those who cherish you deeply. Love to Holly (Marie Combs). Love to all your devoted fans whose affection was returned by you in kind. If anyone defied death with a firm refusal, it was you, Shannen. I pay my respects to this brave soul.”
The “Charmed” actor expressed on Instagram how he learned about true strength from you. You helped him overcome fear and live with meaning. You also showed him the importance of believing in himself and staying resolute.
“Forever loved!” he added. “Truly heartbroken.”
“I’m deeply saddened by Shannen Doherty’s passing. When I myself was diagnosed with breast cancer, I recalled how bravely she shared her journey with the world. Her friendship, which came unexpectedly to me, was a source of comfort and inspiration. Growing up, watching her on ‘90210’ was a significant part of my childhood.”
I can’t help but reflect on our connection, forged through our mutual struggle and compassionate hearts. When I recall the last message she sent me not long ago, she inquired about my wellbeing and asked if there was anything she could do for me – classic Shannen, extending a helping hand even during her own darkest hour as she bravely battled this terrible illness.
Olivia ended her speech with a moving tribute to her deceased friend. “Cancer is truly terrifying, and Shannen bravely fought it with dignity, strength, and grace,” she shared. “I extend my deepest sympathies to her mother, who was not only her closest friend but also her greatest supporter and role model throughout her journey. May Shannen rest in peace, dear friend.”
The actress, fighting multiple sclerosis, expressed gratitude in a comment on Shannen’s last Instagram post: “Your resilience inspires us. Keep pushing forward, rebel spirit.”
“I deeply care for you, Shannen. Keep soaring high, beautiful soul. Your strength, compassion, and generosity will leave an indelible mark on us all.”
I deeply admire the individual who shared their courageous Cancer journey on social media. Their openness and vulnerability left an indelible mark on me and countless others. Their story resonated with us in a profound way, offering hope and inspiration during difficult times. May they rest peacefully, and my heart goes out to their loved ones during this trying period.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that statement like this: I was saddened to learn of the passing of Shannen Doherty, who graced our screens as Brenda on Beverly Hills, 90210. I had the pleasure of working with her when she dated my character Rick, whom I met in Paris during an episode.
