BBC boss apologises after Strictly complaints: “The line should never be crossed”

As a devoted cinema-goer and long-time fan of Strictly Come Dancing, I have always looked forward to this show as a source of entertainment, joy, and inspiration. The recent news about former contestants’ experiences and the departures of beloved professionals like Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima has left me feeling disheartened and disappointed.

After allegations from past participants on Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC’s CEO, Tim Davie, expressed his sincere apologies.

According to BBC News, Davie expressed his disappointment upon learning about the celebrity grievances regarding the show. He emphasized that it is inappropriate for dancers to exceed the boundaries of acceptable competition behavior.

He expressed that there would be a healthy dose of competition and a strong desire to succeed. However, there are boundaries, and these must not be overstepped. Unacceptable conduct will never be tolerated.

He expressed regret that anyone had a less-than-favorable encounter.

As a movie critic, I must admit that there were some areas in the film that left me pondering and I regret to say this. It’s evident now that more attention was required during the training process, particularly with regard to supervision. We should have tackled those issues head-on.

As a devoted cinema-goer, I’m excited to share that according to Davie, Strictly will indeed make its comeback on BBC One as announced earlier this year, amidst the recent buzz and controversy.

In the new line-up for the dance program in 2024, it has been announced that neither Giovanni Pernice nor Graziano Di Prima will be participating due to misconduct accusations against them.

Pernice, who departed from the series following nine consecutive seasons, has refuted any allegations concerning abusive or intimidating actions.

After numerous articles surfaced about an investigation involving professional dancer Pernice, he made this statement: “People who have watched my Strictly Come Dancing career progress over the past ten years understand that I’m fiery and driven. I’m as eager for my dance partners to succeed as anyone.”

I’ve consistently worked hard to help my dancing partners reach their full potential. This motivation stems from a deep love and competitive spirit, not just for myself but also for us as a team. Once again, I appreciate your unwavering affection and encouragement.

Previously announced for this year’s BBC series, Di Prima is now reportedly no longer included among the professional dancers set to appear.

After leaving the program, Di Prima expressed regret over the incidents that caused his dismissal. He acknowledged that his strong desire and commitment to winning could have influenced his training methods.

“Respecting the BBC HR process, I understand it’s best for the show that I step away,” he said.

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year.
