Initially intended as a standalone production, “Folie à Deux” amplifies the intensity and brings in intriguing references to classic cinema for an even more captivating experience.
What Is Joker 2 About?
The musical version of “Joker: Folie a Deux,” directed by Todd Phillips, tells the darkly romantic story between Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn. A significant portion of the film is expected to unfold inside Arkham Asylum. In this production, we’ll see Zazie Beetz, Brendon Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Jacob Lofland make appearances.
In her own words, Beetz expressed, “The musical aspects of the film truly resonate with me. I wasn’t shocked, as Todd has always shown creativity in his character development. Musicals have a deep connection for me – they allow characters to express their emotions so intensely that all they can do is sing and dance about it. This rings true for me personally; dancing and singing during a tough time in my life was an incredibly cathartic experience. I related to Arthur, who is experiencing such profound feelings, expressing them through dance and song. As the Joker, this emotional outburst seems fitting.”

As a long-time fan of DC Comics and their intriguing universe of characters, I’m always eager to learn about upcoming projects that delve into the rich lore of these iconic heroes and villains. However, when it comes to “Joker: Folie à Deux,” I find myself feeling a bit confused and left out due to its unique classification as an Elseworlds production.
“By the time we joined, Todd’s work on ‘Joker’ was well underway – I had previously watched and provided feedback, but most of its development was happening at WB where it began. We were only involved in the live-action aspects moving forward.”
