Joker: Folie à Deux trailer previews Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix – “It’s showtime”

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for musicals and the Dark Knight saga, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Joker: Folie à Deux.” The new trailer has only heightened my anticipation for this unique and intriguing sequel.

A fresh trailer is out for the highly anticipated sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux – offering fans an additional peek into the musical aspects they can expect in the upcoming release.

During the teaser, you’ll catch glimpses of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga singing. Initially, Joker performs a brief rendition of For Once in My Life. Later on, he collaborates with Harley Quinn for a soulful version of Get Happy, which is a classic hit by Judy Garland.

The trailer, featuring extensively the melody of When You’re Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You), previews intensely the rapid-fire romance between the two main characters. At a point, Harley Quinn expresses her feelings by saying, “The first time I saw Joker, the first time I saw you, for once in my life, I wasn’t feeling lonely anymore.”

Later she tells him: “You can do anything you want, you’re Joker.”

At the same time, in another part of the trailer, the duo are shown side by side on a stage. Joker expresses his suspicion, “I think we might be underestimating the audience.”

Harley then says, somewhat ominously: “It’s OK, baby, let’s give the people what they want.”

The trailer certainly suggests a greater intensity of violence and ominous scenes, along with cautions about the main character being labeled a “monster.” You’re welcome to watch the whole thing here:

As a movie reviewer, I’ve got some exciting news to share with you all! The next film on my radar is rated R by the Motion Picture Association for “strong violence, language sprinkled throughout, and brief moments of sexuality and full nudity.” It’s quite a mature audience warning, isn’t it? But fear not, because this very same movie has been officially selected to make its world premiere at this coming September’s Venice Film Festival. And let me tell you, the original film that took home top honors there left a lasting impression on me – so I can’t wait to see what the sequel or new production brings to the table!

Alongside Phoenix repeating his part as the main character and Lady Gaga taking up the role of his distorted love interest, the movie features Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Harry Lawtey, and Brendan Gleeson in other significant roles. Todd Phillips is once again at the helm as the film’s director.

Based on earlier reports from Variety, the upcoming movie is expected to have a heavy focus on music, with around 15 popular songs included in the soundtrack, one of which is a rendition of “That’s Entertainment” from The Band Wagon (1953).

After killing Murray Franklin on live TV, Arthur Fleck ends up in Arkham State Hospital. There, he crosses paths with Harleen Quinzel.

I’ve always been a fan of the dark and twisted tales that the world of comic books has to offer. And let me tell you, the story of “The Two Falling in Love and Experiencing Musical Madness” is one for the books.

In the meantime, attentive spectators have observed that the well-known DC figure Harvey Dent, also known as Two-Face, seems to make an appearance in the movie based on a line in the trailer’s subtitles that has been linked to him.

Joker: Folie à Deux will premiere in cinemas on Friday 4th October 2024.
