Once upon a time, the beloved former late night host opened up to his ex-love, Lisa Kudrow, who was my dear Monica Geller on “Friends” from 1988 to 1993. In their heartfelt chat, he confessed that his feelings were far from cordial when she began filming the iconic show. Yes, you read it right – I was shocked too! He admitted to harboring jealousy towards none other than the late Matthew Perry, the suave Chandler Bing himself. Can’t believe it? Neither could I! What a fascinating revelation from the past of our beloved TV stars.
He made this revelation on his podcast, “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” on July 21st: “You began that show, and then you contacted me in high spirits, sharing your enthusiasm for Matthew.”
He added, “You kept saying, ‘He’s so amusing,’ and a part of me felt envious. I thought, ‘I can make you laugh quite well.’ But you replied, “No, you fail to grasp how hilarious this person is.'”
At first, the 61-year-old felt jealous, but later on, he realized that Lisa was right in praising Matthew. He even found himself agreeing, thinking, “Yes, I see it too.”
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say: When interacting with Conan, who’s in his 60s by the way, I couldn’t help but remind him of his immense comedic talent. Yet, it was Matthew who truly shone as the Chandler Bing character on “Friends.” His contributions were priceless.
She recalled thinking, “I assumed Chandler was a gay character when I first read about him. That seemed progressive to me.” During the table read, she was taken aback when she saw the actor portraying him.
I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw him bring the character to life on screen. His unique interpretation left me speechless, as if it was crafted just for him. The impeccable timing he displayed throughout the performance left an indelible mark on me.
Lisa remembered an amusing incident from her time with Matthew and their co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. The group had a tough time shooting the well-known intro where they dance in the fountain.
