Xena icon Lucy Lawless returns to Spartacus role for ‘history-altering’ spin-off

As a huge fan of both Lucy Lawless‘ acting prowess and the gritty world of Spartacus, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that she will be reprising her iconic role as Lucretia in the upcoming alternate history revival, Spartacus: House of Ashur. The original series was a colossal hit, with Lawless delivering one of her scariest and best performances as the formidable wife of gladiator trainer Quintus Lentulus Batiatus.

Lucy Lawless will reprise the role of Lucretia in an alternate history revival of Spartacus.

From 2010 to 2013, the initial show consisted of three seasons. It was titled “Blood and Sand,” “Gods of the Arena,” and “Vengeance.” In this series, Lucretia (portrayed by John Hannah) was a powerful wife to the gladiator trainer Quintus Lentulus Batiatus.

The tale seemed to conclude following season 3’s portrayal of Ashur (Nick E Tarabay), Batiatus’s right-hand man, meeting his demise in the tumultuous and gory rebellion of the slaves.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the upcoming series “Spartacus: House of Ashur” will give us a fresh perspective on the story. Instead of meeting the usual fate of the original character, Spartacus will live on in this version. And let me tell you, Starz isn’t holding back! They promise an enticing, adrenaline-pumping ride that takes everything we loved about the first series and amplifies it. Get ready for a steamy, thrilling experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

The summary raises the intriguing query: “What if Nick Tarabay’s character, Ashur, didn’t perish on Mount Vesuvius as the finale of Spartacus: Vengeance concluded?”

Instead of “And what if he had been given the gladiator school previously belonging to Batiatus in exchange for helping the Romans eliminate Spartacus and his uprising of slaves?”, you could also say:

Lawless is set to make an appearance as a guest actor instead of being a regular cast member. However, according to Deadline, her part will play a significant role in initiating the altered sequence of events.

In the past, the actor who played Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica has labeled Lucretia as her most challenging and finest performance yet.

She shared with Collider that Lucretia was truly intimidating. The fearsome aspect of Xena came from her unyielding physicality which filled her with dislike for the combat scenes. However, she had no choice but to endure it.

“However, being naked, which is a significant aspect of Spartacus, goes against both human instincts and our cultural norms.”

“The other night, I found myself re-watching Gods of the Arena with my husband. We’d exhausted our online options, you see. And oh, what a rollercoaster of intense storytelling that show was! I must admit, it gave me quite a scare and remains my favorite role to date.”

Steven S. DeKnight, the brain behind “Spartacus,” will take on the role of executive producer and head writer for “House of Ashur.” The series also features an impressive cast including Tarabay, Graham McTavish, Tenika Davis, Jamaica Vaughan, Ivana Baquero, Jordi Webber, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith, and Leigh Gill.
