X-Men: Marvel Reveals the Members of a New Villainous Quiet Council

As a longtime fan of the X-Men, I’m thrilled to witness the latest developments in the mutant world with Marvel’s relaunch of their X-Men titles. The introduction of a new Quiet Council in the first issue of NYX has piqued my interest and added another layer of intrigue to the already complex X-Men universe.

A fresh Quiet Council emerges after Krakoa’s demise to challenge the X-Men. Marvel is revitalizing the X-Men universe with numerous ensemble titles, ongoing series, and miniseries, highlighting the Children of the Atom. One such title is NYX, which resurrects the name from the early 2000s groundbreaking series. In NYX, readers can join Ms. Marvel on her X-Men journey. The debut issue presents a new villain, The Krakoan, who isn’t acting alone. He is seen with an ominous version of Krakoa’s Quiet Council.

NYX #1 comes from the creative team of Jackon Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Francesco Mortarino, Ra?l Angulo, and VC’s Joe Sabino. We meet the comic’s cast of Ms. Marvel, Sophie Cuckoo, Prodigy, Wolverine (X-23 / Laura Kinney), and Anole. With Krakoa gone, several young mutants have relocated to New York City. However, as with most things concerning mutants, not all humans welcome them with open arms. Ms. Marvel investigates an anti-mutant group called the Truthseekers, who appear to be framing terrorist attacks on mutants. It’s here that she confronts The Krakoan, who is dressed up in a Magneto-esque costume complete with a Cerebro-looking device hiding his identity.

After escaping, NYX number 1 concludes with the Krakoans convening atop a towering building for a meeting with the Quiet Council. Once the helmet is removed, The Krakoan takes a seat and proposes a toast to his council colleagues. A notable disclosure unfolds: Emma Frost’s former pupils, Hellion and Empath, have allied with Sophie’s sisters in the Stepford Cuckoos, forming their own Quiet Council faction.

Who are the X-Men’s new Quiet Council?

Julian Keller is recognized as Hellion, a mutant endowed with telekinesis and telepathy. At the Xavier Institute, he studied under Emma Frost in her Hellions class. Known for his fiery temperament, Hellion frequently butts heads with authority figures and peers, making him a beloved character from the “Academy X” and “New X-Men” eras.

In the Krakoan era, Empath became the leading character in a publication titled “Hellions” by chance. This comic depicted Mister Sinister assembling an assortment of castaway mutants including Havok, Psylocke, Greycrow, Nanny, and Orphan-Maker. Empath’s unique ability lies in controlling the emotions of individuals.

Five daughters of Emma Frost, named Celeste, Esme, Irma or Mindee, Phoebe, and Sophie, were biologically engineered using Emma’s genetic material. These sisters, who include the youngest among them, Sophie, possess a collective telepathic consciousness.

It’s intriguing to observe the reactions of the NYX cast as they discover that their past companions and alleged sisters have taken up criminal pursuits. Given their association with at least one Quiet Council member, the ensuing clash between them will generate significant conflict and drama, shaping the future developments in NYX.
