Kevin Feige Comments on Marvel/DC Crossover: "Never Say Never"

As a long-time Marvel fan and fervent follower of the cinematic universe, I can’t help but get excited at the prospect of a Marvel-DC crossover event. The possibility of seeing our beloved heroes from both universes clash, collaborate, or even just share a scene is enough to send shivers down my spine.

As an avid fan, I’d share that Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige hasn’t ruled out the idea of a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and DC Universe crossover. In his own words, he reassured us with, “I wouldn’t close the door entirely on anything.”

Feige is currently promoting “Deadpool & Wolverine” in media interviews, including one with Collider’s Steve Weintraub. In this conversation, they talked about the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and potential future major developments. Notably, it was mentioned that James Gunn, a former employee of Feige’s who helmed the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy, now heads DC Studios and is initiating the new DC Universe.

Due to Gunn’s strong connections with both Marvel Studios and DC Studios, the prospect of a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and DC Extended Universe (DCEU) crossover event is looking more plausible than before. However, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, hasn’t announced any concrete plans for such an occasion. Yet, he didn’t rule out the possibility entirely, leaving room for speculation that it could become a reality in the future.

As a dedicated fan, I ponder over such possibilities from time to time. The question of when or how it could come to fruition remains elusive to me. Feige shared, “We’ve been discussing this for quite some time now, but let me be clear – we don’t have any definite plans in place. The photos of the Superman set looking impressive have certainly grabbed my attention, and James Gunn is immersed in that project at the moment. Our focus, however, lies with Deadpool and Wolverine.”

James Gunn himself has acknowledged having thoughts about merging the Marvel Cinamic Universe (MCU) and DC Universes in a playful and lighthearted manner. They have even held preliminary conversations on the topic.

Based on my extensive experience as a team leader and having gone through the process of taking charge at different organizations, I can confidently say that the likelihood of significant changes increases once I assume the role at DC. However, I must admit that these changes are not imminent; they may still be many years down the line. Before any transformations take place, it is crucial for us to define our objectives and strategies as a team.

When fans got excited, believing that a collaboration between Marvel and DC was right around the corner, Gunn took the time to reassure them that it would be at least ten years before any crossover projects between the two franchises came to fruition.

“In my opinion, it might resemble events from the next decade. But it’s not going to happen right away since there are plenty of other DC films to produce first. Still, I find the idea intriguing,” Gunn said with a chuckle.

The DC Universe will begin its debut in December with the premiere of the “Creature Commandos” animated series. Afterwards, the new Superman movie is set to hit theaters on July 25, 2025. Currently, “Deadpool” and “Wolverine” can be seen in cinemas.
