Buffy and Luther stars join new audio sci-fi crime drama Vam PD

As a huge fan of both science fiction and vampire stories, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Big Finish’s new audio series, Vam PD. The prospect of a show that combines the supernatural world of vampires with the everyday workings of an office setting is truly intriguing.

Big Finish, famous for producing Doctor Who audio plays, has unveiled a fresh science fiction audio project named Vam PD. The series boasts an impressive ensemble of actors.

Vam PD works hand in hand with the Night Office, an entity responsible for regulating vampire activities and maintaining a fragile truce between the realms of the living and the deceased.

In the leading roles, we have Juliet Landau from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and joining her are Alimi Ballard (“One of Us Is Lying”), Mara Wilson (“Mrs Doubtfire”), and Warren Brown (“Luther”). Each of them will contribute significantly to the production.

James Goss, who has a history of writing for Doctor Who and Torchwood on Big Finish, is creating an audio drama in two parts or more.

Three episodes from the first volume are scheduled for release in October 2024, followed by three episodes from the second volume in February 2025. Pre-orders for both volumes are currently open.

In this drama, the police team persistently puts an end to clandestine blood-feasting gatherings, stumbles upon a flourishing underground red market, probes a cult that promises vampires the liberty to bask in sunlight, and uncovers numerous other intrigues – all part of a regular day’s duties.

Lizzie Worsdell, the producer, expressed her enthusiasm: “I can’t wait for you all to listen to Vam PD. We have Mara Wilson and Juliet Landau playing lead roles, along with an exceptional group of supporting actors.”

As a voracious reader and avid listener of audiobooks, I’ve come across my fair share of unique storytelling. But let me tell you, this particular series takes the cake! The writing is brilliantly clever, witty, and camp – a fresh take on the vampire genre that truly stands out.

In the meantime, Landau shared: “Big Finish contacted me, expressing that James Goss had penned the character of Catrin for my consideration. At first, I hesitated about taking on another vampire-themed production. However, once I started perusing the scripts, I found myself chuckling uncontrollably – an occurrence that’s not common for me.”

Instead of saying “I’m a person who thinks, ‘That’s funny,’ rather than laughing,” you could paraphrase it as “I find humor in situations without explicitly laughing out loud.” Regarding the second part of the sentence, you might consider saying “My husband Dev inquired from the adjacent room, ‘What’s all the commotion about? What are you up to?’ I replied, ‘Vam PD! That’s the explanation.'”

Wilson commented: “First and most importantly, Vam PD is extremely amusing. It’s filled with suspense, mischief, rich lore, and strong camaraderie. There’s even a hint of sweetness. However, the humor takes center stage. And let’s not forget, these are vampires – so there’s an abundance of blood.”

Starting in October 2024, the first installment of Vam PD will hit the shelves. The second volume will follow suit in February 2025. You can secure your copies before their release by placing a pre-order right now.
