As a dedicated gamer and movie enthusiast with a soft spot for animated films, I’ve been following the box office race between “Inside Out 2” and “Frozen 2” with great interest. And let me tell you, this latest achievement by Pixar is nothing short of impressive! With a global gross of over $1.46 billion and counting, it’s not only surpassed “Frozen 2,” but also taken the crown as the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to share that “Inside Out 2” has surpassed “Frozen 2” at the global box office, bringing in an impressive $1.462 billion so far. This new milestone makes “Inside Out 2” the highest-grossing animated film of all time. Moreover, it propels the movie up the all-time box office chart, positioning it as the 13th-highest grossing film ever produced (and the 9th highest-grossing Disney production, surpassed by a few Marvel and Star Wars titles, plus James Cameron’s Avatar sequel). Released on June 14, “Inside Out 2” is one of only five Pixar movies to join the elite billion-dollar club, alongside Finding Dory, Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4, and The Incredibles 2.
Inside Out 2 was already the top-grossing movie of 2024, having unseated Dune: Part Two. So far, three of the year’s five biggest movies are animated franchise features, with Inside Out 2 at #1, Despicable Me 4 at #3, and Kung-Fu Panda 4 at #5. Of course, it’s pretty likely the top five will get a reworking pretty soon with Deadpool & Wolverine expected to earn huge bank in its opening weekend.
The second installment of “Inside Out” surpassed $600 million in domestic box office sales on the previous day. It has consistently ranked among the top three movies during its six-week tenure. Japan is set to be the last market for the film’s release next week, and Disney has announced plans to keep it playing in cinemas for an extended period before transferring it to Disney+.
Disney owns the number one, three, four, and five spots, as well as nine out of the top twelve, in terms of box office earnings for animated movies.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” brings us back into the mind of teenager Riley, at a time when Headquarters is going through a surprise transformation. Old friends Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are left feeling uncertain as new emotions like Anxiety, Envy, Ennui, and Embarrassment join the team.
As a movie buff with a knack for unraveling intricate production details, I’m thrilled to share my take on the latest exciting announcement from Pixar Animation Studios: “Inside Out 2.” Having followed the careers of these talented voice actors since their breakout roles, I can’t help but feel a personal connection to this project.
With music by Andrea Datzman, Inside Out 2 is in theaters now.
