Critical Role Officially Announces Moonward, Reveals First Trailer

As a long-time fan of Critical Role and the intriguing world of Midst, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming “Moonward” miniseries! The trailer alone has me hooked, and the prospect of Marisha Ray and Liam O’Brien joining Sara Wile and Matt Roen in this new story is a dream come true.

As a long-time fan of Critical Role and their captivating podcasts, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard about the upcoming miniseries, Moonward. The first trailer gave us a glimpse into this new story set within the Midst universe, which I have come to love over the years.

The initial “Midst” podcast was an intriguing blend of semi-improvised fiction with an eclectic group of characters leading up to the unexpected event of Midst’s moon crashing down from the sky. This podcast gained recognition from “Critical Role,” underwent enhancement, and secured a third season conclusion this past summer. In contrast to the original “Midst,” which was strictly an audio production, “Moonward” promises a more immersive experience in a black box theater setup. This includes live sound, music, and lighting, all while the cast tells the tale. It’s important to note that unlike the original “Midst,” which was solely a podcast, “Moonward” is marketed as a roleplaying story, but it won’t incorporate any specific game mechanics, rules, or dice rolls.

In a press release, Wile expressed, “At Midst, we’ve consistently focused on play and exploration. We’re thrilled to apply our unique storytelling approach to Critical Role, and we believe the audience will enjoy it just as much as we did while making it!”

I created the Midst cosmos, a game where we all contribute to shape the story through roleplay and improvisation, forming a shared, interactive narrative experience with my friends.

Below, you can watch the trailer for “Moonward.” Starting August 7th, this new series will be released on Critical Role’s Twitch, YouTube, and Beacon channels.
