Ghost Machine and Mezco Team Up for Junkyard Joe Action Figure

As a longtime comic book fan and collector, I’m absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of the Junkyard Joe action figure from Ghost Machine and Mezco Toys. The first time I came across this character was in Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s “Geiger” miniseries, and I was immediately drawn to his unique blend of grit, heart, and classic war comic vibes.

Next month marks the debut of Ghost Machine’s first collectible item, which comic congoers at San Diego Comic Con can check out in person. At Ghost Machine’s SDCC booth, Mezco Toys and Ghost Machine have collaborated to introduce an action figure embodying Junkyard Joe, a character from Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s comics. With a 1:12 scale, this figurine reflects the essence of classic war comics while adding a unique touch from Ghost Machine.

At Comic Con’s “Preview Night” tonight, the Ghost Machine booth (#1629) shined a light on a new collectible figure. This figure comes with a cloth uniform, authentic accessories, and unique packaging adorned with fresh artwork by co-creator Gary Frank and colorist Brad Anderson. Take a look below to get a closer peek.

I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with Geoff and Gary on this project, and it’s been an amazing experience for me as the founder and owner of Mezco Toyz. Their unbridled enthusiasm for this character is truly infectious. From the very first issue, I knew that Joe was destined to become a collectible figure in plastic form. I’m overjoyed that I got the chance to bring Junkyard Joe, an authentic action hero with a heart of gold, to life. Working on him was an absolute blast.

If I could travel back in time and share with my ten-year-old self that something I contributed to would develop into an awe-inspiring action figure, I would be utterly astonished. I’m thrilled for everyone to witness the extraordinary craftsmanship of Mez and his team at Mezco on this figurine.

After investing considerable time in collaborating with Joe on his book, I was astounded to witness Mez and his team breathe life into him little by little, Frank remarked. “It’s truly him! That’s Junkyard Joe!”

The One:12 Collective’s latest model is made from plastic and meticulously painted for an impressive appearance. This new action figure includes a helmet, camouflage jungle uniform, combat boots, removable chest harness, belt, and gun holster. Standing around 6.7 inches tall (17 cm), it boasts various Vietnam War-inspired accessories such as a bayonet knife, handgun with magazine, landmine, two grenades, two gun effects, and interchangeable hands. With over 28 articulation points, this must-have figure comes with its own One:12 Collective stand, featuring the logo and adjustable post. Each Junkyard Joe figure from the One:12 Collective is delivered in a collector-friendly package.

Starting August 28, you can place pre-orders for the Junkyard Joe Collectible Figure exclusively on mezcotoyz.com as a Mezco Direct Exclusive (MDX) item.

Following his impressive introduction in the initial Geiger miniseries by Johns and Frank at Image Comics, Junkyard Joe became the leading character in a successful solo miniseries by the same creators. This gritty hero has become a pivotal figure in The Unnamed, a team of unlikely heroes who band together to confront an immense evil force, both collectively and individually throughout history. The first issue of Junkyard Joe, a Special Black & White Veterans Edition, played a significant role in raising awareness and funds for the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) and Veterans Aid (in the U.K). In keeping with their commitment to give back, Ghost Machine produced a special Junkyard Joe t-shirt, with all profits going towards supporting the NCHV and VA.

John will give an initial showing of the Joe collectible at Ghost Machine’s booth (#1629) on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27 between 3pm and 4pm in the PDT time zone. He will also sign autographs at Image Comics’ booth (#1915) on Friday, July 27 from 10am to 11am PDT. Additionally, John will be a featured speaker at the Image Comics Panel: Crafting Unforgettable Comics through Storytelling and Genre on Friday, July 27 from 1pm to 2pm PDT in room 25ABC.
