Top Gun: Maverick's Glen Powell Reveals He Has a Start Date for Third Movie

As a longtime gamer and avid moviegoer, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia at the news that a third “Top Gun” film is in the works. The original 1986 blockbuster was a formative part of my childhood, and its iconic scenes and memorable lines continue to resonate with me today. So, when I heard that Glen Powell has confirmed that production on the sequel has already begun, I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm.

As a passionate gamer and avid movie fan, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement when I think about the long-awaited sequel to “Top Gun,” Tom Cruise’s iconic action blockbuster that first graced our screens 36 years ago. And now, with “Top Gun: Maverick” breaking box office records and becoming one of Paramount’s biggest hits, it looks like we won’t have to wait decades for the next installment.

In retelling the conversation, EW reports that Daisy Edgar-Jones of “Twisters,” seemed interested and inquired if Powell was referring to “Top Gun.” However, Horowitz’s attempts to elicit more detailed information proved unsuccessful.

“Absolutely not,” Powell said, later joking, “Uh, Josh, we should go to the next question.”

A month or so after producer Jerry Bruckheimer hinted at a wait for the film’s release, there is now some exciting news to share. However, creating these blockbuster movies comes with a lengthy production process, especially when coordinating schedules for some of Hollywood’s most prominent actors.

In the planning stages of “Top Gun 3,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer has hinted that Tom Cruise will likely return for the sequel. However, Bruckheimer has acknowledged that Cruise’s busy schedule raises uncertainty about when the production of “Top Gun 3” might begin.

In March, Bruckheimer expressed, “It’s Tom Cruise we’re counting on. He’s an incredible talent. We’ve collaborated on a project. Joe Kosinski had an enticing story concept, and Tom was enthusiastic about it. So, we’re in the process of refining it. However, given Tom’s packed schedule with Mission: Impossible currently underway and another film lined up next, it’s uncertain when production will commence. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a compelling script that Tom connects with, which would then lead us back to flying high together again.”

In the movie “Top Gun: Maverick,” after over three decades as a elite Navy aviator, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise, continues to live up to his reputation as a fearless test pilot. He shuns promotions that would force him to retire from active flight duty. When tasked with mentoring a new group of Top Gun graduates for an unprecedented mission, Maverick crosses paths with Lt. Bradley Bradshaw, or “Rooster” (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick’s late friend and radar intercept officer, Lt. Nick Bradshaw, who was affectionately known as “Goose.”

With an unpredictable future looming and haunted by past regrets, Maverick finds himself thrust into a conflict, forcing him to grapple with his most profound anxieties. This struggle reaches its peak in a task requiring the greatest sacrifice from the brave souls selected for its execution.
