Sea of Thieves Season 13 Update Released With Patch Notes

As a seasoned Sea of Thieves player with years of pirating under my belt, I’m thrilled to hear about these recent updates! The fixes to emotes and weapon poses make for a more immersive experience on the high seas. And as someone who frequently wields a pocket watch, it’s about time we got that authentic flicking animation.

In simple terms, starting from today, the thirteenth season of “Sea of Thieves” by Rare is now available on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game experienced a significant revival in 2024, with its launch on PS5 being a major contributing factor. Now, players can look forward to an abundance of fresh content that will keep them engaged for a long time.

As an excited fan, I can’t wait to download update 3.1.0 for Sea of Thieves right away! This new patch marks the beginning of Season 13 and introduces an enticing new world event called Burning Blade. Plus, there are new Skeleton Camps to conquer and fresh rewards to earn. And if that’s not enough, Rare has released another Plunder Pass for us to purchase! Additionally, they’ve fine-tuned numerous gameplay aspects and squashed plenty of bugs to enhance Sea of Thieves even further.

The Flame Rises

Capt. Flameheart is back, but the true attraction of Season 13 is his blazing ship, ready for brave crews to seize and call it their own!

The Burning Blade

Prepare your team and get ready for the Burning Blade World Event challenge! This fiery vessel, distinguished by its blazing torches and towering smoke signal, is a formidable ten-cannon warship that only an experienced crew can tackle.
If you manage to subdue the Obsidian Skeleton crew on the ship, you have the option to join forces with the infamous Captain Flameheart. With this alliance comes the chance to command the Burning Blade as your own. Your new crew members will be Flameheart’s skeletal followers, providing assistance and wielding the ship’s weapons such as Obsidian Ashen Winds Skulls for defending against boarders and the powerful Ashen Roar cannon that unleashes its destructive force from the ship’s bow.

As an excited fan, I’d put it this way: I can opt to sink the Loyal Guardians’ ship and plunder the vast treasure hidden within the sunken Burning Blade. This hoard includes the Blade of Souls, a brand-new melee weapon that sets enemies aflame!

Skeleton Camps

As a seasoned pirate sailing the treacherous waters of the Sea of Thieves, I’ve come across many wonders and faced numerous challenges. And let me tell you, the recent discovery of Flameheart’s Skeleton Camps has added a new layer of excitement to our voyages.
In the depths of an ancient temple, explorers will encounter puzzling enigmas linked to the constellations. By solving these challenges, they can gain entry to the hidden Crypt Vault. Inside, adversaries of Flameheart have the opportunity to disrupt his ritual, seize the Orb of Mysteries, and subsequently hand it over to the Trading Companies for lucrative compensation.
As a devoted follower of Captain Flameheart and captain of the Burning Blade crew, it’s my responsibility to carry out his wishes. To do so, I must embark on a quest to complete the ancient rituals hidden within the temples. These sacred rites hold the knowledge that our beloved captain yearns for. By performing these rituals, we’ll uncover the secrets that will strengthen our crew and bring us closer to serving our fearless leader, Captain Flameheart.

When we successfully carry out Rituals as a pirate crew, the power of Flameheart intensifies. In return, loyal pirates who bring the Burning Blade back to him at The Reaper’s Hideout receive their just rewards. On the other hand, if our crew chooses to destroy the Burning Blade and secure the Blade of Souls instead, we can cash in on its value based on the completed Rituals prior to losing the battle!

Commendations and Rewards

If crews decide to align with the Pirate Lord and destroy the Burning Blade, they’ll gain access to the Obsidian Bone Crusher collection, which includes various ship components, attire, and weapon rewards.
As a devoted follower of Flameheart, I’m excited to share that by opting to support him and setting sail on the scorching Burning Blade, you’ll gain access to an extraordinary ship set called “Burning Blade Reborn.” Additionally, for those skeletons who have already imbibed from Flameheart’s sacred chalice, you can unlock new and captivating bone cosmetics and hues when crewing the Burning Blade as part of his fiery legion.
As a curious adventurer, I’ve discovered that by obtaining the Orbs from the hidden temple caches, I can unlock the enigmatic Cracked Orb Lantern. For those with a knack for mischief and a taste for the unconventional, stealing these Orbs from unsuspecting crews will reward you with the menacing Reaper’s Bones Shattered Mask.
I delve deeper into the ancient temples hidden beneath the skeleton camps, eager to untangle their enigmatic riddles. The rewards of my exploration? New intriguing tattoos that add a unique flair to my in-game character.

Season 13

In other words, “Another Season” equates to 100 new challenges to conquer by boosting your reputation, and there are plenty of prizes up for grabs as incentives. Additionally, a Plunder Pass is available as an extra feature with even more rewards. Emissaries haven’t been overlooked either; they offer exclusive company-themed cosmetics for impressive Ledger accomplishments.

In Season 13, as you advance through the 100 levels of Renown, you’ll earn rewards including Bloodstone Dragon cosmetics and other limited-time Seasonal specials. Take a look at the Seasons profile page to explore the latest rewards and monitor your pirate’s progress!

As a seasoned pirate with years of plundering under my belt, I can’t help but be excited about the latest Pirate Emporium offering – the Plunder Pass! This pass grants access to an abundance (a veritable treasure trove, if you will) of additional unlockable cosmetics from the Eclipse set. And let me tell you, these aren’t just any old cosmetics. No, no. We’re talking a full ship set here, complete with Jacket, Hat, and Gloves.

Season 13 Emissary Ledger Rewards

During this season, the Guild Emissary Ledgers grant the “Mysteries of the Ancient Flame” painting, “Dark Fate’s Mark” ornament, and “Guild of Blazing Souls” title to guilds that excel in their representation and make us proud within the Ledgers.

As a seasoned player with years of experience delving into the complex world of The Trading Company, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! This month, the Emissary Ledgers have undergone a refreshing update – and let me tell you, it’s a game-changer.

Chest of Fortune

The Treasure Chest called “The Chest of Fortune” is hidden within the robustly named “Burning Blade” ship, daring adventurous crews to succeed in sinking it and seize its valuable content.

As a dedicated player, I’m thrilled to announce that by successfully retrieving Chests of Fortune, I can now advance to the next level of the Fortune’s Favor Commendation. This exciting achievement grants me access to an array of remarkable items: the Fates of Fortune Fishing Rod, Shovel, Pocket Watch, Tankard, and Speaking Trumpet. Can’t wait to use them on my next adventure!

Starting from now, the rewards for achieving Grade II in Fortune’s Favour Commendation have been enhanced. This new reward includes the coveted Fates of Fortune Gloves. Players who earned Grade II before this update can obtain the gloves instantly by visiting the Outpost clothing shops.

Reaper’s Chests

Teams pursuing the distinctive signal of the Reaper’s Chest or Reaper’s Bounty can advance to the next level of the Reaper’s Riches Commendation, thereby unlocking the Fates of Fortune Hurdy-Gurdy, Concertina, and Scar.

Outpost weapon shops now carry a range of armaments from the hand-carved Carpenter’s weapon set.

New Throwing Knives

As an excited fan, I’d rephrase it this way: Now, the weaponsmiths at The Outpost have introduced some brand-new throwing knives for us! But, to get our hands on these beauties, we need to achieve certain milestones first.
As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent exploring the vast worlds of various MMORPGs, I can confidently say that each new set of throwing knives in my arsenal brings a unique sense of excitement and accomplishment.

Season Six Legacy Cosmetics

You can now purchase cosmetics from the Outpost that were previously offered during Season Six, using Doubloons instead.
Starting this season, players have the opportunity to buy the Naval Commander outfit bundle, as well as exclusive, limited-time items. For Pirate Legends, don’t miss out on adding Belle’s Hat and Stranger’s Cutlass to your collection.
As a dedicated player who took part in Season Six, I’m fortunate enough to have access to the limited-time Dark Relic items that are no longer available for newcomers.

Gameplay Improvements

Post-Defeat Ship Sinking

After a ship is demolished, the time it takes for the vessel to sink and discharge its freight has been shortened. Consequently, the surviving crew can more promptly engage with the mermaid and proceed to their next destination.
With this update, every ship now sinks more quickly after being defeated, making their sinking times more uniform.

Bone Caller Skeleton Improvements

Revived Bone Caller Skeletons will no longer reveal the position of hidden players using a stealth emote.
Players can evade detection from pursuing Bone Caller Skeletons by breaking their line of sight and executing the hide emotive action prior to being discovered.
By shooting a weapon and then concealing oneself, players can attract Bone Caller Skeletons to a specific area, making them regularly patrol that spot due to the perceived threat.

Updates

PlayStation(R)5 Activities

Before beginning a game of “Sea of Thieves” on PlayStation 5, players now have the option to participate in two fresh Activities to kick-start their gaming experience. These activities can be chosen from the control center, transporting players directly to the Ship Selection screen.
As a passionate player, I’m thrilled to share that now when I participate in Faction Battles using the Hourglass of Fate, my battle progress will be displayed in the control center for me to see. Additionally, this information will be made public on my Friend profile, allowing others to keep track of my performance in real-time.

View Profile on PlayStation(R)5

On PlayStation(R)5, players can now easily access another player’s network profile by choosing “View Profile” from the Crew Management and Guild menus.

Fixed Issues

Gameplay

While embarking on a ship from the sea, the boarding sound effects can no longer be muted by players clutching ladders and repeatedly offering objects. As a result, other players in close proximity will inescapably be aware of the audible signals that someone is coming aboard from the water.
After reassigning the text chat function to the C key on your keyboard or R3 button on PlayStation(R) 5, players can use it once more.
As a dedicated Grade 1 Emissary, I used to spend an hour diving in the Hourglass battles. After each victory, I’d leapfrog right up to Grade 3 without having to go through Grade 2. Now that this progression rule has been updated, I can finally unlock those elusive Commendations that previously required a Grade 2 status.
As a dedicated fan, I’d express it this way: I used to be able to cast a vote against an Emissary Flag right after the ominous death knell sounded, but unfortunately, that option has been taken away from us crew members now, leaving us powerless as our beloved ship is about to meet its demise.
The Gold Hoarders Boots can now be found in the correct shop at Outposts.
Revised: Mermaid-riding players will no longer be unlucky victims of lightning strikes upon returning to their ship after navigating through a stormy expanse.
Snakes caught inside crates will now attack players when held and stationary.

Performance and Stability

To ensure a smoother gaming experience, the sea should no longer freeze or move sluggishly, thereby minimizing instances where it considerably impacts the game progression.
The game’s stability has been enhanced to minimize instances of sudden player disconnections or unexpected game terminations.

The War Chest

When you haven’t achieved progress yet, the “Twin Shot Target Achievement” will show up in your War Chest.
The skeletons made of bones, now wandering around on the ship, give players a brief respite before attacking after they have disembarked from the Ferry of the Damned.
Throwing a knife at a blocking player will now display the correct visual effects.
Players are now able to pick up Deadlock Jailer’s thrown knives located around the map, even if they don’t have any throwing knives equipped.
After discharging a charged round from a Double Barrel Pistol, the hammer no longer needs to be cocked anew prior to reloading, resulting in a faster reloading process.

PlayStation(R)5

While exploring the list of Guild members on PlayStation 5 (PS5), players will no longer encounter anonymous profiles. Instead, they will be able to identify each member with their actual names or usernames.
On PS5, guild members’ PlayStation Network profiles should now be visible with their icons displayed next to their gamertags during gameplay.
While engaged in a Faction Battle on PlayStation 5 (PS5), if your crew strays outside the designated battle area, the colors of the surroundings will fade, signaling potential danger ahead.

Visual and Audio

Now, when a player climbs aboard a ship, the ship’s boarding sound will only play in the close vicinity of the ladder instead of echoing from a distance.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Even after I perish in Faction Battles, the pulsating rhythm of the battle music continues to resonate, keeping me connected to the intensity of the fight.”
To enhance the experience for players, some wheel designs have been upgraded to keep their hands away from the handles while turning.
Pigs caught in a Pig Crate will now appear at the correct size.
Changing from a sleep or sit expression to any other emote will now automatically adjust the camera zoom level properly.
When wielding a pocket watch, players will now flick the watch open.
Improvements have been made to the blade textures of the Gold Leaf Cutlass.
In simpler terms, doing the Scrappy Weapon Pose Emote is now preventing players’ hands from clashing with thrown knives.
If a player is seen holding a spyglass up to their eye, they should not have the spyglass overlap with their head when looking down.
The grog inside the Evening Tide Tankard now appears correctly.
The Legendary Spirit Pistol should now fire in line with the pistol’s centre point when aiming.
Larger pirates wearing the Paradise Garden Costume should now fit snugly without visible seams.
The colour of the Frozen Horizon Frigid Hair tips is now maintained when a headband is equipped.
Placing the Scrivener’s Writing Set on a ship now results in it sitting neatly in place.
When Guybrush explores the catacombs, he now holds the skull instead of it animate on its own.
As a seasoned adventurer and long-time fan of the Monkey Island series, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement when it comes to the latest update on my favorite game. I remember back in the day, struggling to decipher the cryptic messages that would flash across the screen whenever I managed to unlock a new shanty. The Summon the Beast shanty was no exception, and I spent hours trying to make sense of its elusive iconography.

Environment

A visible hole in the Vault wall at Fetcher’s Rest has been filled.
At Plunder Valley and Sailors’ Bounty, adjustments have been implemented along the shores to allow the waves to gently roll in and touch the sandy beaches.
Dropped treasures close to the entrance of Sailor’s Knot Stronghold’s Vault doors will no longer sink below ground level.
Pets will no longer be automatically removed from hangout spots within the Pirate Legend Hideout.
Floating items in the Shrine of Ocean’s Fortune have been removed.
Players are now able to easily navigate under one of the eastern platform’s gaps in Skull Keep without experiencing any hindrance or getting stuck.
In “The Legend of Monkey Island,” the trinkets for the Governors’ portraits can now only be placed in specific spots on the ships to avoid overlapping with other items: the Governor Guybrush Threepwood Portrait, the Governor of Melee Island Portrait, and the Governor Marley Portrait.

User Interface

To make inviting friends to a Guild more convenient, the friend list in the invitation menu should always display all your current friends.
When you’re on the Discover tab of the Quest Table and move on to another option, going back to the Discover tab keeps the selection you previously made highlighted.
When players dive into an encounter in the Tunnels of the Damned, they’ll continue to see notifications reminding them that the search is ongoing.

Accessibility

For PC gamers with the ‘Toggle Radial Menus’ accessibility option activated, the issue of the Game Options menu getting stuck when pressing Q and E at the same time has been resolved.

Text and Localisation

For players with the French localization, take note that the Seaposts have been renamed back to their original English names, as it was before.
As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but be excited about the recent improvements made to “The Fate of the Morningstar” Tall Tale Quest Books. Having encountered my fair share of text issues while playing games in Japanese, I can only imagine the relief and joy that comes with resolving these problems for the gaming community. It’s a testament to the dedication and hard work of the development team, and I commend their commitment to enhancing the overall player experience.
