As a long-time fan of the Terminator franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement about Dynamite’s new comic book series! Forty years have passed since the release of James Cameron’s groundbreaking sci-fi classic, and the battle between humans and machines is far from over. The announcement at Comic-Con that a present-day anthology series is in the works, with Declan Shalvey as writer and Luke Sparrow as artist, has rekindled my enthusiasm for this thrilling saga.
The battle for the tomorrow we want starts now. Forty years after the uncontrollable AI Skynet dispatched a lethal robot (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from 2029 back to 1984 in James Cameron’s “The Terminator,” Dynamite is unveiling an alternate tale of the human-machine conflict. The San Diego Comic-Con commenced with the company unveiling a new comic book series titled “The Terminator.” This contemporary anthology is being crafted by acclaimed writer Declan Shalvey, known for his work on Dynamite’s “ThunderCats,” and artist Luke Sparrow, who has contributed to IDW’s “Star Trek.”
In October, you can find issue #1 of “The Terminator” comic series at your local stand. This release comes perfectly timed for the 40th anniversary of Cameron’s groundbreaking science fiction film.
In each issue of this series, you’ll find fresh situations and challenges. Many stories will be self-contained, but recurring characters may emerge as the storyline develops. We’re aiming for a raw, pulp style with this comic book. While the first movie was trailblazing and unique, it also had a gritty, noir feel that rooted it in its setting. I intend to emphasize the relentless threat lurking in the franchise – an unyielding force determined to take your life.
Skynet’s plan to eliminate Sarah Connor and her future leader of the Resistance, John Connor, has been thwarted. However, this setback won’t deter Skynet from continuing its genocidal mission. If one approach fails, it will explore other options to wipe out the human resistance before it even begins. The historic figures of Sarah and John are significant threats to Skynet, and it is determined to eliminate them before their actions lead to Skynet’s downfall.
In this new phase of the time conflict, Terminators are being sent worldwide and through time to attack not just present-day resistance members but also their forebears, plus innocent bystanders unfortunate enough to be caught in the fray. Initially, it might appear that these additional targets are less important than the initial missions of the T-800 and T-1000. However, given the vast scale of this warfare, such a conclusion is misleading. Time works in Skynet’s favor – when history becomes a battleground, no place or time is exempt.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you all! In addition to the regular cover by Shalvey, we now have a stunning collection of variant covers unveiled recently. These include breathtaking new pieces by artists Edwin Galmon (ThunderCats), Joshua “Sway” Swaby (Marvel’s Star Wars: Doctor Aphra), David Cousens (Splice’s Gemini), and an iconic throwback cover by Alex Ross (Terminator: The Burning Earth). Feast your eyes on the preview of the teen-rated comic’s captivating interior artwork below!
Since the collaborative comic “Transformers vs. the Terminator” in 2020, Dynamite’s “The Terminator” is the newest entry in the franchise’s comic book series. Prior to this, “The Boys” publisher put out “Terminator: Infinity” (2007), the second installment of their T2 saga, followed by “Terminator: Revolution” (2009,) and the crossover “Terminator/RoboCop: Kill Human” (2012).
The sci-fi story belonging to StudioCanal continues to grow with the new anime titled “Terminator Zero,” taking place in Tokyo during 1997. Keep an eye on egmr.ru for the most recent news and developments from SDCC 2024.
