As a huge fan of quirky horror-comedy and dark tales of suspense, I’m absolutely thrilled about the news that Danny McBride, Edi Patterson, and Grady Hendrix are teaming up to adapt Hendrix’s novel “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires” for HBO. This project is right up my alley, bringing to mind beloved titles like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” and I can’t wait to see how they breathe life into this intriguing story.

Danny McBride and his “The Righteous Gemstones” partner Edi Patterson are set to team up with acclaimed novelist Grady Hendrix for an adaptation of Hendrix’s book “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires.” Previously, this quirky horror-comedy project was being developed at Prime Video under PKM Productions, but it has now been abandoned. Instead, Hendrix will bring the project to HBO. With its unique blend of horror and comedy, the film may remind you of titles like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.” This is not a mere coincidence: Quirk Books, which was known for publishing offbeat genre fiction at one point, published both Hendrix’s book and the “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” adaptation.

In the initial phase of the COVID-19 crisis when students were educated at home, Hendrix initiated a podcast named Super Scary Haunted Homeschool. This podcast featured narratives about vampire history from “The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires” by Grady Hendrix. It remains unconfirmed if any of this “extra content” will be integrated into the upcoming TV series, but it appears to be a strong possibility.

According to Deadline’s latest scoop, I’ll be working alongside Hendrix, McBride, and Patterson as executive producers for an upcoming project. Brandon James from Rough House Pictures will join us in this role as well. Quirk Books is also on board, earning an executive producer credit. Previously, Hendrix received a screen credit for the 2019 horror-comedy “Satanic Panic,” where Rebecca Romijn starred.

As San Diego Comic Con approaches, there’s excitement in the air about potential updates on a new HBO series featuring Booster Gold. A while ago, rumors swirled that McBride and Patterson were involved, but at the time, there was little concrete proof to support these claims.
