As a long-time fan of the Legacy of Kain series, I can hardly contain my excitement at the prospect of two of its most beloved entries being remastered! It’s been over 20 years since the release of “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver” and “Soul Reaver 2,” and as someone who grew up playing these games, I’ve held onto the hope that they would one day return. The recent leak of branding for “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered” at San Diego Comic-Con is a welcome sign that this dream may soon become a reality.
Two beloved installments in the Legacy of Kain series, which has been dormant since 2003 following the release of “Legacy of Kain: Defiance,” are reportedly getting remastered. Though the franchise, cherished by a devoted fanbase, seemed to have gone into hibernation, there remained hope and calls for its revival. It seems these pleas have been acknowledged at last.
At Comic-Con in San Diego, a sneak peek of the new branding for “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered” was discovered on Resetera. This revelation came alongside information about a connected Legacy of Kain comic book series from Dark Horse. However, Crystal Dynamics has yet to officially announce any plans for this remastered version of the game. Therefore, this is the first time the public has learned about it.

According to reports, “Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver” and its follow-up “Soul Reaver 2” are the most well-received games in the action-adventure series. These titles, released in 1999 and 2001 respectively, were highly praised when they initially came out. Notably, they were helmed by renowned director Amy Hennig. Following her tenure on the Legacy of Kain franchise, Hennig joined Naughty Dog and subsequently created the Uncharted series.
If there are plans for Legacy of Kain to return, Crystal Dynamics might want to consider remastering the series as a first step. This approach would help determine fan interest in the franchise and make games like “Soul Reaver” and “Soul Reaver 2” playable on current systems. While it’s uncertain if new entries or additional remasters of the Blood Omen games will follow, major Legacy of Kain announcements are expected soon.
