As a huge fan of Jeff Goldblum and Greek mythology, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Netflix original series, “KAOS.” The prospect of seeing Goldblum embody the role of Zeus, king of the gods, is already a tantalizing proposition. But when I learned that this retelling places the gods among regular humans, living in luxury while humanity suffers in fear, my anticipation reached new heights.
In the trailer for the new Netflix series “KAOS,” Jeff Goldblum’s portrayal of Zeus, the King of Gods, is marred by paranoia. The show presents an intriguing twist as gods, including Goldblum, live amongst humans, who now enjoy a luxurious lifestyle. However, Zeus becomes increasingly concerned when he realizes that humans no longer fear him and thus, do not pay homage. As the gods grapple with their own issues, four mortals uncover their common bond in fighting against Zeus. The series sheds light on some of society’s darker aspects, but it provides an excellent platform for Goldblum to showcase his talents.
The KAOS trailer opens with Jeff Goldblum’s voiceover proclaiming himself as if he were a deity. The scene shifts to a room in his house adorned with news articles detailing catastrophic events like volcanic eruptions and tornadoes. These occurrences stir Zeus’ temper, yet humanity bears the brunt of the damage. Riddy, portrayed by Aurora Perrineau, emerges, condemning all gods. Zeus seeks retaliation, igniting a conflict whose outcome remains uncertain.
Netflix shares excitement over Jeff Goldblum’s KAOS.
I’m thrilled that Charlie Covell, the brilliant mind behind “The End of the F***ing World,” is bringing us his latest project, KAOS. Netflix is just as eager as I am to share this new creation with audiences, and Covell expressed her gratitude towards Netflix in a statement.
“I’m over the moon about producing ‘KAOS,’ and I’m fortunate to collaborate with an exceptional team of creative minds, Georgi and Runyararo, who bring unique perspectives and a captivatingly dark sense of humor. The addition of Hugh Grant as Zeus is beyond my wildest dreams – I’m elated about his involvement. Our cast is filled with talented actors, and we feel privileged to have them join us for this project. I can hardly contain my excitement as we prepare to start filming.”
Sophie Klein, Netflix’s UK Series Director, expressed her excitement: “It’s a pleasure to work with this exceptional cast and crew bringing Charlie Covell’s distinctive, modern take on a mythical realm to life. Kaos is a captivating blend of happiness and darkness, guaranteed to amuse, delight, and evoke emotions.”
What is Netflix’s KAOS about?
For a long time, Zeus relished his position as The Gods’ monarch. But one day, he notices a new wrinkle on his forehead in the mirror, causing him great unease. Neurosis takes hold of him, making him suspect that his reign is about to end. Convinced that his downfall is imminent, Zeus begins seeing signs of it all around.
Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades, God of the Underworld, is secretly losing his grip on his dark dominion. There is a backlog of dead waiting to be processed and they are growing restless. Hera (Janet McTeer), Queen of the Gods, exercises dominion on Earth — and over Zeus — in her own unique way. But her power and freedom become threatened by Zeus’ growing paranoia, and she is forced to act, while Zeus’ rebellious son, Dionysus, (Nabhaan Rizwan), is out of control and on course for a cosmic collision with his father.
On Earth, there’s a strong desire among people for transformation. Meanwhile, Poseidon (Cliff Curtis), the deity of the sea, storms, earthquakes, and horses, seems preoccupied with the grandeur of his yacht and the location of the next gathering. The welfare of humans holds minimal importance to him. Regrettably for the gods, some humans are starting to recognize this…
Four individuals with diverse backgrounds – Riddy (Aurora Perrineau), Orpheus (Killian Scott), Caneus (Misia Butler), and Ari (Leila Farzad) – share a mysterious connection in their fight against Zeus. Each character holds a distinct position, any of them could be the one to overthrow the gods.
KAOS premieres August 29th on Netflix.
