Mortal Kombat 1 Director Teases “Kontinuing Story, Future Fighters” at SDCC 2024

As a long-time fan of the Mortal Kombat series, I’m thrilled that NetherRealm Studios has finally revealed the final DLC fighter for Mortal Kombat 1 in the form of Takeda. The anticipation leading up to this moment has been palpable within the gaming community, and it feels like a testament to the enduring appeal of this iconic franchise.

At NetherRealm Studios, the long-awaited last downloadable character for “Mortal Kombat 1” has been released, which is Takeda. However, fans are excited about the upcoming Year 2 content. The creators will share more details during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con today between 2 PM and 3 PM PDT.

Prior to this, Ed Boon, the co-creator of the series and game director, gave fans a sneak peek of what’s to come. He hinted at continuing the narrative, introducing new fighters, and preparing for major shocks. The initial suggestion suggests the unveiling of the previously announced expansion pack, which could potentially drop this year. However, specifics are scarce, but Boon hinted last year that it would resemble Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath expansion.

Regarding new fighters in the game, it’s been discovered through data mining that veterans like Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor are likely to join the roster. As for guest characters, rumors suggest the addition of Terminator’s T-1000, Scream’s Ghostface, and Conan from Conan the Barbarian. What other surprises are in store? Only time will tell.

The original version of “Mortal Kombat” can be played on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, personal computers, and Nintendo Switch. For a critique of the fundamental game, please refer to our review.
