Garnering the title of the highest-selling manga series in 2023, the soccer series might not have world-ending stakes, but the heart-pounding action and character-building has struck a chord worldwide. Recently, we here at ComicBook had the chance to attend this year’s Anime Expo and witnessed Blue Lock star, Kazuki Ura, talk about the franchise’s runaway success worldwide. With season two set to land this October, the future seems bright of the soccer players attempting to be the finest in Japan.
As a devoted fan of “Blue Lock,” I was thrilled to witness Kazuki Ura’s captivating discussion at Anime Expo this year. He shared his amazement over the franchise’s extraordinary success beyond Japan’s borders: “To be honest, ‘Blue Lock’ started off as a massive hit in Japan. I wasn’t entirely confident about its reception internationally since it’s rooted in Japanese culture. However, the incredible enthusiasm I’ve encountered worldwide has left me utterly elated! It feels like an enlightening moment for me. Once more, I’ve been reminded that the allure of anime transcends nationalities. The foundation of ‘Blue Lock’ is genuinely fascinating, and I believe everyone, regardless of where they’re from, harbors an ego – some conceal it, others flaunt it, or perhaps they don’t even recognize it. Blue Lock’s team has been tirelessly working to share their message with the global audience, and witnessing its triumph firsthand is a truly humbling experience.”
Blue Lock’s Future
After a successful first season, it was expected that “Blue Lock” would carry on with new developments. In early 2023, the franchise’s inaugural film, titled “Blue Lock: Episode Nagi,” premiered in cinemas globally. Additionally, starting this autumn, fans can look forward to the continuation of the television series, as season two is set to debut on October 5th.
