SDCC 2024: Joe Quesada Reveals Comic Imprint Amazing Comics and First Title

As a long-time comic book enthusiast and collector, I’ve seen my fair share of new comic book companies come and go. But the announcement of Amazing Comics, founded by Joe Quesada in partnership with Mad Cave Studios and European publishing house Dupuis, has truly piqued my interest.

At last, the enigmatic hints surrounding Idaho’s top comic book company’s campaign were unveiled during San Diego Comic-Con. The intrigue stemmed from none other than a fresh comic company called Amazing Comics. This new player in the industry is a collaboration between Mad Cave Studios and Dupuis, Europe’s publishing powerhouse. Moreover, it represents the latest venture of comic book legend Joe Quesada. Amazing Comics’ debut title, “Disciple,” will be penned by Quesada along with Charles Dorfman. The series boasts artwork from Quesada himself, colors by Richard Isanove, inks by Wade von Grawbadger, and lettering by Joe Caramagna. Have a look at the full cover for “Disciple” below.

Amazing Comics is fueled by a collaboration between Founder Quesada, Mad Cave Studios President Mark Irwin, Editorial Director Stéphane Beaujean of Dupuis, and Senior Editor Olivier Jalabert. The company’s debut title is called Disciple. An early glimpse was given at San Diego Comic-Con through the preview comic, Disciple: Quarto. The narrative of Disciple takes cues from Shakespeare’s Hamlet, with Quesada sharing that this central concept served as the catalyst for the rest of the project.

What Is Disciple?

I discovered the authentic beginnings of Disciple when I crossed paths with Charles Dorfman, an accomplished author brimming with enthusiasm for visual storytelling. He proposed adapting Hamlet into a graphic novel, igniting a creative odyssey that ultimately shaped the exceptional version of Disciple we know today. This endeavor merges Shakespearean themes with modern genres, generating a captivating, mythological landscape for readers to delve into. It commences as a prequel, taking place in an entirely new realm based on the original Hamlet’s foundation.

Origins of Amazing Comics

Since 2005, the concept of Amazing Comics has been brewing in my mind. I knew that one day I would be able to bring it to life, but I vowed not to act impulsively when the time came. Instead, I chose to be patient and deliberate, drawing on the lessons I’ve learned during my 30-plus years in comics by taking the less traveled path. And now, after two years of quiet planning and collaboration, I am thrilled to announce my new venture with Mad Cave Studios and Dupuis. Not only are they cherished friends, but they are esteemed publishers who share my passion for graphic storytelling, and together, we have developed a unique and unprecedented initiative. I can’t wait to introduce the world to these incredible characters and stories.

“Dupuis Publishing and Média-Participations are thrilled and eager to collaborate with Mad Cave Studios’ impressive team on an unprecedented graphic novel project. We’re joining forces with comic book legend Joe Quesada and his Amazing Comics group to create groundbreaking content for a global audience,” Jalabert shared.

“Irwin stated that Mad Cave goes beyond being just a comic publishing company, we are innovators in graphic storytelling. Our partnership with Joe and Dupuis paves the way for new global possibilities and offers an enticing new addition to the market,”

I, being a long-time comic book enthusiast, am thrilled beyond words for Amazing Comics!
