As a seasoned gamer with years of comics and superhero stories under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of excitement when I hear about Daniel Warren Johnson‘s unrealized Superman story. The creator of “Wonder Woman: Dead Earth” has expressed his desire to see this tale come to life, and as a fan who has always yearned for fresh takes on the Man of Steel, I wholeheartedly share that sentiment.
Daniel Warren Johnson shares that he has a captivating “Superman” tale which DC Comics have rejected in the past. However, he expresses his hope to one day see this story published. Notably, creating a “Superman” comic is high on his list of aspirations. When asked about it, Johnson humorously remarked, “I have an exciting ‘Superman’ manuscript; we’ll try pitching it again soon.” Upon hearing this, our interviewer expressed enthusiasm, to which Johnson playfully replied, “Perhaps a tale about Plastic Man with no limbs.” It seems there’s some excitement in the works, but for now, we’ll have to be patient and wait to see it. Over the weekend, DC Comics and DC Studios made several announcements, such as “Absolute Superman,” “Absolute Wonder Woman,” and “Absolute Batman.”
In an interview, DC’s new Batman writer, Scott Snyder, shared his perspective on DC’s interpretation of an alternate universe. According to him, “This universe is all about the underdog spirit. The heroes in this realm don’t have the same advantages as those in the primary universe. They face more challenges and require greater ingenuity and resilience. Consequently, they become even more compelling and badass.”
Snyder described the Absolute Universe as being situated “within a single expansive narrative and contributing to a larger tale that DC will be unfolding in the coming years.” He further explained that DC All In served as a significant catalyst for the company.
Daniel Warren Johnson Is Busy With Transformers
Despite some challenges, the comic creator Daniel Warren Johnson shared his insights about writing Transformers at San Diego Comic-Con 2024. While many fans have shown their support, it’s normal to encounter criticism over specific creative decisions.
“Some fans have expressed disappointment over the demise of Bumblebee in my comic series,” he admitted. “Older fans were particularly shocked, exclaiming ‘What’s going on here?’ I reassured them, keeping a polite tone. On the other hand, young fans, who are avid followers of Transformers, were unfazed by the violent content. They had already coped with Starscream killing someone in the first issue. Their fathers approved, finding it ‘cool’ and ‘fine’. Engaging this new generation at a comic book level is an exciting development.”
Johnson reminisced, “It’s been quite an experience. By the way, thanks everyone, I adore you all. The whole thing has been fantastic, and the reaction has been astounding.” He continued, “I picked up that book just for fun, and here we are. It’s taken off more than I could ever imagine, and it’s a privilege. Honestly, I used to draw these things when I was a child. So, being able to do this now and pay my bills? That’s pretty awesome.
