As a dedicated fan of both anime and Crunchyroll, I can’t help but be thrilled about the unexpected impact of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” on my beloved streaming platform. Although Crunchyroll is the go-to place for most “One Piece” anime series, the live-action adaptation has brought new life to the franchise and, in turn, boosted Crunchyroll’s presence in the anime community.
Crunchyroll is known as one of the leading platforms for streaming anime. Although it features most of “One Piece” anime series, Crunchyroll doesn’t provide the live-action version of the Grand Line that has gained significant popularity on Netflix. In an unexpected turn of events, Crunchyroll COO Gita Rebbapragada disclosed that the live-action “One Piece” has benefited Crunchyroll as fans of shonen eagerly anticipate the second season’s release, where Monkey D. Luffy continues his quest to become the pirate king.
Gita not only talked about how the live-action Straw Hats affect Crunchyroll, but also highlighted Crunchyroll’s significance in introducing new anime. In fact, anime has revived the concept of scheduled viewing. Since anime follows the Japanese broadcast calendar quite closely, viewers eagerly await and tune in to watch each episode of an exciting and highly anticipated series.
The Live-Action Straw Hats’ Influence on Crunchyroll
Rebbapragada recently talked all things Crunchyroll with outlet The Wrap, stating how the live-action One Piece helped fuel the premiere anime streaming platform, “Netflix has a massive platform, and more people watch live-action than animation. So between those two things, a lot more people got exposed to the franchise. It’s not just Crunchyroll that benefits from that. ‘One Piece‘ merch sales went up more. There was more streaming of the original ‘One Piece‘ series. We have it on our platform, but others do too. So all boats rise when a franchise has a big moment. That’s why we think it’s a sustainable ecosystem. We’re just trying to build great franchises, regardless, for the industry and not just necessarily for us,”
Currently, Netflix is working on the second season of “One Piece”‘s live-action version. Although a specific release date for the Straw Hats’ comeback hasn’t been announced yet, some casting choices have been unveiled as speculation grows about which Drum Island, Loguetown, and Alabasta anime characters might join the upcoming season.
As an avid gamer and anime fan, I’m always excited about the latest developments in the world of One Piece and the Straw Hat Pirates. Keeping up with their live-action adventures on Netflix is a must for me. To stay informed, follow Team Anime on ComicBook for the most recent updates on their journey across the Grand Line.
