Evil Dead Star Bruce Campbell Teases Franchise's Future, Including His Return for Animated Series

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia when it comes to the Evil Dead franchise. Having grown up with Ash and his relentless battles against the deadites, the announcement of an animated series has me more than just a little excited!

Earlier this year, it became known that two distinct “Evil Dead” films were in production, one by filmmaker Sebastien Vaniere and another by Francis Galluppi. However, more adventures are planned for the franchise as star and producer Bruce Campbell confirmed that an animated series is being developed. Despite retiring from the role of Ash Williams in 2018 with the last season of “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” Campbell hinted that he may not be done voicing Ash in future projects, as the physical demands of the franchise took a toll on him but not his enthusiasm for the character.

Campbell affirmed to Entertainment Weekly that they are working on an animated adaptation, similar to a series. He added, “I will gladly provide Ash’s voice throughout the day, as my voice hasn’t changed significantly compared to how much I’ve aged.”

In 2023, when Campbell mentioned that an animated movie was being developed, fans might wonder whether this idea has evolved into a series or if his latest comments hint at a sequence of animated films instead.

In the gaming world of horror flicks, last year’s “Evil Dead Rise” was a refreshing return to form for the Evil Dead series, which hadn’t seen a new live-action movie since 2013. The box office triumph of this reboot has sparked renewed curiosity about a franchise that seemed to be on hiatus. As a die-hard fan, Bruce Campbell hinted at two more movies, but with the concept proving financially successful, there’s talk of even more projects in the pipeline. Keep your fingers crossed, fellow fans!

The actor reminisced about there being two more exciting films ahead. He mentioned that they had secured two talented directors with fresh scripts ready for filming, and they managed to persuade a studio to finance both projects because they continue to generate profits.

As someone who grew up as a die-hard fan of the Evil Dead franchise, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation at the prospect of more films being made in this series. The last installment was released ten years ago, and Fede Alvarez’s reboot came out in 2013. It’s been too long since we’ve had new content to enjoy, and I for one am eager to see where the story goes next.

Initially, the first two “Evil Dead” films were set in a cabin, followed by “Army of Darkness” transporting us to medieval eras. The 2013 remake revisited a cabin setting, while “Ash vs. Evil Dead” spanned various rural and isolated locations. Remarkably, Campbell hinted that future installments could explore diverse settings such as an urban apartment building in the city, as seen in “Evil Dead Rise.”

The actor noted that since we’re no longer in the cabin, neither Sam Raimi needs to direct nor he has to star as Ash. He explained that the key is to retain elements that audience enjoys, such as ordinary folks dealing with a malicious force they can’t combat, given their lack of skills.

Stay tuned for updates on the Evil Dead franchise.
