As a devoted fan who has traversed the twisting labyrinth of clone conspiracies in both the original Orphan Black and its successor Echoes, I must say that this latest twist has left me absolutely spellbound! The revelation of an adult Eleanor clone has not only breathed fresh life into the “Clone Club” dynamic but also expanded the concept of genetic connections to a whole new level.
We’re well into the first season of “Orphan Black: Echoes,” a show airing on AMC and BBC America that has left viewers in awe throughout its course. Taking place decades after the original series, “Orphan Black,” this new installment delves into a fresh cloning mystery. The latest episode, titled “Unless You Trusted Someone,” has significantly altered our understanding of the show’s conspiracy.
In the aftermath of the flashback episode, the storyline unfolds as Kira Manning (Keeley Hawes) is driven by the events she witnessed to invent a device capable of cloning humans, following the loss of her wife, Eleanor Miller (Rya Kihlstedt), to Alzheimer’s. In her first attempt at cloning, she produced a younger version of Eleanor, named Lucy (Krysten Ritter). However, Kira did not participate in the creation of Jules (Amanda Fix), the teenage counterpart, as she believed she had destroyed the device entirely. It’s later revealed that a clone of adult Eleanor was created before then and is living in the present day, oblivious to her origins and Kira’s efforts to preserve their relationship. This revelation significantly alters the dynamic of the “Clone Club” that fans are familiar with – instead of a group of Leda clones close in age, we now get glimpses of “Eleanor” at different stages of her life.
As a gamer delving deeper into this captivating series, I’ve noticed that around Episode 5 and 6, the clone element becomes increasingly prominent as you approach the climax. By the end, you find yourself grappling with three versions of the same character – original Eleanor, new Eleanor, and a fourth one that has been hidden all along. It’s mind-boggling to ponder how many more Eleanors might be out there, created by Kira that we don’t even know about. I find this concept intriguing, especially the notion of shared connections between people, whether known or unknown. The clone angle seems to tap into a fundamental part of our existence, hinting at DNA-linked ties that bind us all, in a way that feels incredibly real. What I love most about it is the idea that there could be someone out there, living a parallel life, sharing the same genetic makeup and essence as you, in this vast, intricate web of life we call Earth. The clone aspect is simply mesmerizing.
New episodes of Orphan Black: Echoes air Sundays at 10/9c on AMC, BBC America, and AMC+.
