SDCC 2024: Adult Swim Exec Teases Possibility of More Anime Spinoffs Following Rick and Morty

SDCC 2024: Adult Swim Exec Teases Possibility of More Anime Spinoffs Following Rick and Morty

As a seasoned gamer and anime enthusiast, I must say that the prospect of more Adult Swim shows getting the anime treatment is nothing short of exhilarating! With my years of binge-watching Rick and Morty, I can’t help but feel nostalgic about the teaser shorts they released a while back. Now, with Rick and Morty: The Anime officially set to premiere this Summer, it feels like a dream come true for fans like me!

As a longtime fan of the quirky and humorous animated series “Rick and Morty,” I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming anime spinoff, “Rick and Morty: The Anime.” Having grown up watching Adult Swim’s unique blend of animation and adult humor, I have always been impressed by their willingness to take risks and push the boundaries of what animation can do.

During the San Diego Comic-Con 2024 weekend, Jason DeMarco, producer of Rick and Morty: The Anime and Senior Vice President at Adult Swim (who also holds the same position in the anime and action series/longform department at Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios) stated that if Rick and Morty: The Anime performs well, there’s a strong chance we might see more anime adaptations of Adult Swim shows. This is because Adult Swim is constantly seeking fresh perspectives on their characters.

More Adult Swim Anime Spinoffs?

DeMarco said, “We’ve got some concepts brewing, but nothing has advanced significantly yet. However, if this project succeeds, there’s a strong chance we’ll explore different interpretations, possibly anime or other styles. I believe that well-crafted characters have a unique ability to evolve and adapt over time, often being reimagined by new generations.”

From a gamer’s perspective, I’d put it this way: When it comes to creating more Adult Swim anime spinoffs, DeMarco emphasizes the importance of organic growth, similar to how Rick and Morty found its unique voice. We’re always on the lookout for fresh perspectives, someone who can breathe new life into our characters or properties while still maintaining that distinctive Adult Swim flavor. If we find the right fit, if a creator can offer a fresh take that feels like it deserves to stand alone as its own entity, then we’ll go for it. But if it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be genuinely original and fitting of the Adult Swim brand, we won’t move forward with it.

As an enthusiastic fan, I’m thrilled to announce that my favorite show, “Rick and Morty,” is getting an anime makeover! The premiere of the English dubbed version airs on Adult Swim on August 15th at midnight, with the English subtitled release following close behind on August 17th. Can’t wait to jump into this new dimension of mad science and intergalactic adventures!
