WWE's Tony D'Angelo Retains NXT Heritage Cup at Great American Bash

As a gamer with over two decades of wrestling fandom under my belt, I must say that the NXT Heritage Cup match between Tony D’Angelo and Tavion Heights was nothing short of exhilarating! The tension was palpable from the get-go, and the unexpected intervention by Wren Sinclair added an extra layer of drama to an already enticing contest.

The second match of WWE NXT’s Great American Bash was for the NXT Heritage Cup, which had The Don of NXT Tony D’Angelo defending his Heritage Cup against No Quarter Catch Crew’s Tavion Heights. Both groups were at ringside for the match, but one side ended up being the most intriguing, as Wren Sinclair would appear in the crowd and then jump into the ring to help get Heights fired up for a comeback. A few slaps to the face seemed to work too, but then the ensuing chaos amongst the group hurt Heights’ chances, as they weren’t paying attention to him when he needed some help between rounds, and that left the door open for The Don. D’Angelo would get the pin and seal the deal, retaining his NXT Heritage Cup.

Evenly Matched

Initially, Heights and D’Angelo found themselves in a tight spot but managed to escape swiftly before re-engaging. At this juncture, neither of them seemed to gain an edge. Heights acknowledged the crowd, only to suffer a sudden suplex and shoulder tackle shortly thereafter. Visibly frustrated by Heights’ showmanship, D’Angelo attempted to restrain him. As time ran out, they both attempted power moves like slams but couldn’t execute, instead opting for submission attempts as the round ended, leaving no points on the board at the first break.

In the second bout, D’Angelo aimed to subdue Heights, yet the round remained tight, neither gaining a point before it ended. However, in the third round, D’Angelo unleashed a flurry of attacks, delivering a decisive blow that sent Heights crashing to the floor and earning the first point. Just as the next round was about to begin, Wren Sinclair stormed into the ring, urging Heights to remember his identity as Tavion Heights and fight with more conviction. She even slapped him twice, which seemed to ignite a fierce determination in him, as he entered the following round with renewed fervor.

Heights was overpowered during round five, as Heights’ strength seemed like a powerful force of nature, knocking D’Angelo to the ground and securing the victory. The round began unusually because the rest of No Quarter Catch Crew were engrossed in a conversation about Sinclair, which distracted them from noticing that Heights was running low on energy and needed assistance. This allowed D’Angelo to take advantage of the situation. As Heights tried to fight back, D’Angelo’s determination proved too strong for him, resulting in The Don scoring the pin, winning the match, and securing the final point to retain his NXT Heritage Cup.
