What you need to know

  • Nexon has dropped the final big update for The First Descendant before its first full season begins in August with patch 1.0.5.
  • The headline acts are Ultimate Valby and Luna joining the roster, a new hard Void Intercept boss, Gluttony, and the new Ultimate tier weapon, Peace Maker.
  • The extensive patch notes also add further proof Nexon is listening to its players, with positive changes made to the Thunder Cage to fix a bug (instead of nerfing it) and promises they’re continuing to consider drop rates and making sure players don’t get overly frustrated.

As a seasoned gamer and researcher with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must say that the latest update for The First Descendant, patch 1.0.5, is nothing short of a breath of fresh air. Having followed the game since its launch, I’ve witnessed both the highs and lows, but Nexon’s recent approach to listening to their player base and making positive changes has been truly commendable.

Wishing a joyous Luna and Ultimate Valby to everyone celebrating! Today marks the release of Nexon’s inaugural content update for The First Descendant, which has been in operation. This is anticipated to be the final significant patch before Season 1 Episode: Invasion.

The latest update for version 1.0.5, approximately 7GB in size on the Xbox Series X, isn’t as big as some past updates I’ve encountered. However, the list of changes (patch notes) is quite extensive.

As a tech enthusiast, let me tell you something exciting! The character we met briefly during the campaign, Luna, is now up for grabs to be added to our team! If you’re in the mood for some farming, you can unlock her at no cost.

She comes with a slate of audio-themed skills, all of which sound pretty interesting.

  • (Passive Skill) Improvisation: Using any skill increases Inspiration Gauge, which allows Luna to use Enhanced Skills.
  • (Active Skill 1) Stage Presence: Using the skill changes Luna’s weapon to her Unique Weapon. Performing the notes in time to the music by using skills or hitting monsters stacks and increases her Skill Power Modifier.
  • (Active Skill 2) Passionate Stage: Using the skill makes Luna play upbeat music, increasing the Skill Power Modifier of Luna and her allies. Gaining the Enhanced Effect increases the Skill Power Modifier even more and also increases the Skill Critical Hit Rate and damage of allies.
  • (Active Skill 3) Relaxing Act: Using the skill makes Luna play relaxing music. Hitting the enemy with a note grants an effect that instantly recovers the MP of Luna and her allies. Gaining the Enhanced Effect increases MP Recovery, and reduces Skill Cost.
  • (Active Skill 4) Delightful Stage: Using the skill makes Luna play delightful music. Hitting the enemy with a note increases Inspiration Gauge and decreases the skill cooldown of allies. Gaining the Enhanced Effect increases the Inspiration Gauge even more and immediately resets the cooldown of allies.

In the same audio theme, Luna also has two new Transcendent modules to equip, one of which makes her faster, and one of which makes her hit hard with AoE damage.

After obtaining Luna, start by elevating her to level 40. You can refer to our guide detailing rapid character level-up strategies for The First Descendant to facilitate your journey.

Upon the introduction of two fresh Descendants and a novel weapon, certain established Amorphous Material patterns are now unobtainable and have been upgraded to “AA” variants. However, they should still be accessible from their original locations, and any previously obtained ones can still be unlocked.

Fresh Generations, fresh leaders and tools of battle certainly catch the eye, but it’s truly noteworthy that Nexon continues to demonstrate they are attentive to their player base and strive to create an engaging gaming experience in every way they can.

Take this note on a bug with the Thunder Cage as an example:

During our internal evaluation, we found an issue with Thunder Cage that caused it to deal more damage than described when multiple monsters were present. Originally, it was supposed to multiply damage by 1.33x, but we noticed it exceeding this rate. To prevent the bug from making the item less effective in the future and to compensate for the fix, we’ve increased the multiplier to double (2x) the original damage. We understand that the worth of your items is significant to you, so we enhanced Thunder Cage more than initially planned to ensure it maintains its value after the bug was resolved. If similar situations arise in the future, we will not only address the issue but also consider ways to preserve the worth of your items, ensuring a fair adjustment.

You can’t see, but I’m clapping really hard right now.

As someone who has been a dedicated gamer for the past decade, I can say with confidence that if I delve into the entirety of the patch notes, it will undoubtedly consume my time until Season 1 arrives. Given my extensive background in gaming, I’ve learned to spot the significant changes quickly. To save you the trouble of wading through every detail, here are a few highlights that caught my eye while skimming through them:

  • AMD FSR 3.1 now available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Void shards dropping in special operations have been increased by around 7x.
  • Developers are working on plans relating to drop rates and being able to trade in unwanted inventory items (such as endless Descendant blueprints) for something useful.
  • Numerous quality of life improvements including faster scrolling across the map on controller, the ability to make single and multi-shot weapons keep firing if you hold down the trigger, and organizational upgrades to the UI.

Servers are expected to restart at 5:00 AM Pacific Time, equivalent to 8:00 AM Eastern Time and 1:00 PM in London. Keep in mind that this downtime might last longer, but you can make the most of your wait by delving into the extensive, detailed patch notes available for review.
