As a seasoned cinephile who has seen his fair share of comedies and dramas spanning decades, I must say that the upcoming BBC Three comedy “Daddy Issues” piques my interest like no other. The stellar cast, led by Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, is enough to make any TV enthusiast salivate with anticipation.
Excitingly, the long-awaited BBC Three comedy titled Daddy Issues, featuring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, finally has a confirmed air date! The wait won’t be much longer.
Daniele Ward, known for Brassic and In the Long Run, has penned a six-part comedy series that is set to premiere. The official launch will take place on Thursday, 15th August, simultaneously airing on BBC Three and iPlayer. On the following day, Friday, 16th August, it will also be broadcast on BBC One.
Not only is there confirmation about the release date, but there’s also thrilling news – the very first trailer has been revealed! This sneak peek features actors Wood and Morrissey as characters Gemma and dad Malcolm.
In the brief advertisement, the disorganized couple are trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to prepare for the birth of a child by organizing their lives.
Apart from Sex Education’s Wood and The Walking Dead’s Morrissey, the series boasts a roster of familiar faces, such as David Fynn (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Sharon Rooney (Barbie), Sarah Hadland (Inside No. 9), Taj Atwal (Hullraisers), Arian Nik (Passenger), Tom Stourton (Poor Things), and Susan Lynch (The Change).
In addition, we have Susannah Fielding (known as Erin Carter), Lauren O’Rourke (of Henpocalypse fame), Cyril Nri (from Death in Paradise), Cora Kirk (hailing from Grantchester), Perry Fitzgerald (recognized from Line of Duty), Claire Keelan (a star on Call the Midwife), Damien Molony (famous for Brassic), Sherrie Hewson (a staple on Coronation Street), Humphrey Ker (associated with Welcome to Wrexham) and David Reed (noted in Ghosts).
As a seasoned observer of human behavior and someone who has witnessed countless instances of unexpected pregnancies, I can attest that the situation faced by the character Gemma is not uncommon. However, what makes her story unique is the twist of having to turn to her seemingly hapless father Malcolm for support.
Lately, Malcolm, who was recently divorced after his ex-wife Gemma ran away with their shared savings for a globe-trotting adventure inspired by “Eat Pray Love”, finds himself struggling to perform even the most basic household chores such as loading a washing machine, boiling an egg, or heating rice in a microwave without incident.
So far, he’s been cohabiting with his divorced friend Derek in less than ideal conditions. However, when Gemma’s roommate decides to vacate, the mix of financial hardship and a fear of solitude leads her to an unusual solution: she reaches out to her father, proposing that he move in with her. With nothing much to lose, she goes ahead with this unconventional plan.
