As a seasoned cinephile with decades of binge-watching and theory-crafting under my belt, I must say that the gradual unfolding of House of the Dragon has been nothing short of captivating. However, one character who seems to be eluding the showrunners like a dragon in flight is Prince Daeron Targaryen.
In each new episode of House of the Dragon, we see an increasing number of Targaryens.
The new Game of Thrones spin-off mainly revolves around the immediate family of King Viserys I Targaryen, portrayed by Paddy Considine, with a significant emphasis on his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Emma D’Arcy), and his brother Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).
Instead, let’s note that Season Two offers a deeper look into the offspring of King Viserys, his second wife being Queen Alicent Hightower (portrayed by Olivia Cooke).
Certainly, the duo’s offspring have taken significant roles on the stage. Among them are King Aegon II Targaryen, portrayed by Tom Glynn-Carney, and Prince Regent Aemond Targaryen, played by Ewan Mitchell.

In the book, Daeron was born slightly later than Prince Jacaerys Velaryon. Logically, he should have made an appearance or been mentioned following the time leap commencing in episode 6 of the series. Regrettably, character Daeron was absent from the screen or not referenced during the first season.
In the second season, after King Viserys’ demise, Alicent inquires about their fourth and youngest child, Prince Daeron Targaryen, who had departed for care at the ancient Hightower estate in Oldtown.
Daeron has been living with his cousin Lord Ormund Hightower and his uncle Ser Gwayne Hightower.
As I stand here, I can’t help but reflect on young Lord Daeron, who bears a striking resemblance to our Hightower kin. Over the years, he’s blossomed into a charismatic, compassionate, intelligent, and valiant lad.
As a devoted moviegoer, I often ponder if my beloved child, who seems so content, thrives more due to his upbringing far from King’s Landing, or is it because he was spared the influence of my parenting? It’s an intriguing conundrum.
In the seventh episode of season 2, Daeron is revealed to have begun flying his dragon Tessarion.

When he turned twelve, Daeron began serving House Hightower in Oldtown as both a cupbearer and squire. This position placed him solidly within the circle of Alicent’s supporters, who were commonly referred to as “the Greens”.
During the conflict referred to as the “Dance of the Dragons,” which erupted, young Daeron found himself in Oldtown at the time. However, despite his youth (he was just 15 years old), he eventually played a crucial role in this war.
