As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the August lineup for PS Plus Essentials is nothing short of a gaming bonanza! The variety in genres and the sheer quality of these games are truly impressive.
As we approach the close of July, Sony has unveiled the upcoming lineup of free PlayStation Plus Essential games for August 2024.
There’s quite a good variety across the three games that are all from wildly different genres.
Apart from that, you’ll find the additional games for both the Premium and Deluxe levels of PlayStation Plus. This includes not only recent PS4 and PS5 releases but also classic games from Sony’s rich library, as well as a few titles designed for PSVR 2.
In July, we received the releases of Borderlands 3, NHL 24, and Among Us. Don’t miss out on your chance to own them as this offer is temporary! Be sure to grab them quickly before they disappear permanently!
With that in mind, keep reading to see what goodies await and which are about to go.
PS Plus free games for August 2024 confirmed
PS Plus Essential members will get the following free games from Tuesday 6th August onwards:
- LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga
- Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach
- Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights
What’s leaving PS Plus this month?
As a long-time gamer who has always been eagerly anticipating the latest releases, I must say that it’s always a bittersweet feeling when my favorite games become unavailable. Having grown up playing video games, I have come to cherish the experiences they provide and the memories we create with friends and family. However, I understand that game companies need to rotate their offerings, so I make sure to grab any essential titles before they disappear from the digital shelves. With the Essential games for July set to vanish on Tuesday, 6th August, I’ll be making a point to claim them as soon as possible.
- Borderlands 3
- NHL 24
- Among Us

In simpler terms, you can only play PS3 games through cloud streaming, which might vary by region, but fortunately, the UK is part of the list that gets to enjoy it without being left out.
See below for a selection of classics you can revisit:
- Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee (PS1)
- Ridge Racer Type 4 (PS1)
- Resident Evil Director’s Cut (PS1)
- The Jak and Dexter series (PS2)

- inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 (PS3)

- Killzone: Liberation (PSP)
As a PS Plus Premium member, you’re granted temporary access to test games before purchasing them. This means you can download a complete game and enjoy playing it for a specified duration, with the trial length varying according to each individual game.
As someone who has spent countless hours investing time and effort into various free trials, I can confidently say that this feature is truly game-changing. The ability to carry over progress from these trials into the full game is a breath of fresh air for many players like myself who want to ensure their hard work doesn’t go to waste. It’s a testament to the developers’ understanding of their audience and a smart move that shows they value our time as much as we do. I’m excited to see more games adopt this approach, making it easier for us to decide whether or not we want to invest in a full game based on our trial experience.
- A Plague Tale: Requiem – Two hours
- Baldur’s Gate 3 – Two hours
- Cyberpunk 2077 – Five hours
- God of War Ragnarok – Three hours
