As a longtime gaming enthusiast with a soft spot for both Deadpool and Wolverine, I must say that the latest marketing stunt for their movie has left me both amused and frustrated. On one hand, the cheeky Xbox controllers are pure genius – who wouldn’t want a Deadpool or Wolverine controller adorned with their distinctive derrieres? On the other hand, making them only available through a sweepstakes is a cruel joke!
There has been a great deal of amusing promotion for the recently released Deadpool and Wolverine movie, including a free Deadpool Controller Holder and the widely popular “Deadpool and Wolverine Cheeky Controllers” that mimic the characters’ suit designs, even including a round backside reminiscent of their physiques. The catch is that these humorous controllers can’t be bought but are only up for grabs in a highly limited sweepstakes, making them exceptionally rare. If the winners choose to sell them, they could fetch a large sum of money. According to Richard Devine, this situation exemplifies what’s wrong with Xbox marketing at the moment.
It’s fortunate that creative fans have stepped in to help by generating 3D printable files for Deadpool’s rear control panel. For a minimal cost, individuals with a compatible 3D printer can create a housing for their existing Xbox controller, transforming it into a Deadpool or Wolverine version, complete with their iconic backsides. Alternatively, there’s also a Wolverine-inspired cover available that showcases Logan’s adamantium clawed hand on the backside if you prefer that design instead.
Gettin’ cheeky with it
I’ve already talked about this in a previous article, but Deadpool and Wolverine’s marketing team has done a hilarious job pushing out silly advertising antics that perfectly vibe with the regenerating merc’s humor. While the popcorn bucket and the free controller holder are both excellent, the Cheeky Controllers took things to a whole new level. That’s why it was so incredibly frustrating to learn that they weren’t available for general purchase.
Without a doubt, I would have snatched up one or possibly both of these authentic controllers if they had been released. Since that isn’t the case, I’m compelled to find alternative ways to get them.
