Destiny 2 Developer Says Current Roadmap is “Unchanged” After Recent Layoffs

As a long-time Destiny 2 player with countless hours spent exploring the cosmos, I must admit that the recent news of layoffs at Bungie has left me feeling a bit uneasy. The company is going through a tough time, and it’s disheartening to see such a beloved game’s development team being affected. However, I take solace in the fact that the content roadmap remains unchanged for now.

Today has been challenging for Bungie, as they’ve had to let go of 220 employees and transfer another 155 to PlayStation in the upcoming quarters. As a gesture of support, Bungie announced on Reddit that there will be no “This Week at Destiny” update this time around.

Regardless of a 17% decrease in staff, the team assures us that there will be “no interruptions to any of the schedules we’ve already shared regarding our content.” The content strategy stays the same, encompassing “next year’s plans and those in the future.”

After the debut of “The Final Shape,” the game Destiny 2 is now progressing through Act 2 of Episode 1: Echoes. The third Act is yet to be released. This year will see the launch of two more episodes, Revenant and Heresy, followed by Codename Frontiers in 2025. Additionally, whispers about Destiny 3 have surfaced, offering players the opportunity to combine subclass abilities without any limitations.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share some intriguing news that’s been circulating the community recently. Although Bungie hasn’t explicitly confirmed it, they are rumored to be developing a new game titled “Marathon,” an extraction shooter for the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. If the reports are accurate, we might be able to get our hands on this game in 2025!
