As a long-time WWE fan who has witnessed Trish Stratus’s incredible career unfold over the years, I must say that her recent return to the ring has been nothing short of breathtaking. Her steel cage match against Becky Lynch at WWE Payback was an absolute spectacle, showcasing Stratus’s unparalleled skill and resilience. However, it seems that her victory came at a cost, as she revealed in an interview that she suffered a concussion during the match.
Last year, Trish Stratus stepped back into the wrestling ring after an extended break since her last match in 2019. Throughout the years since retiring, she’s had multiple comebacks to the ring. However, in 2023, she took things to unprecedented levels. In September of 2023, Stratus and Becky Lynch concluded their heated rivalry in a steel cage match at WWE Payback. This was Stratus’ first experience with such a violent match, and although Lynch emerged victorious, spectators admired Stratus for her impressive performance. Unfortunately, shortly after this match, Stratus sustained a severe injury that may account for some of her recent absences from TV.
Trish Stratus Reveals Concussion Injury After WWE Payback
During an appearance on the show “Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez”, Stratus revealed that she couldn’t recall a viral fan interaction from her entrance where she told a spectator to be quiet, as she had suffered a concussion during the match prior. The conversation went like this: “My team said later, ‘That interaction with the fan is trending.’ ‘Which interaction?’ ‘The one before you entered, when you spoke to the fan.’ ‘I can’t remember that at all.’ I was concussed. People may not know this, but I had a concussion following that cage fight. I didn’t recall anything afterwards. Later on, I watched it back. If you know me, I can be quite sassy, but I was surprised to see myself doing that. Given my awareness of the camera and my usual politeness, I was taken aback. However, upon reflection, I realized that was a genuine character moment. At the time, I was indeed in character.” (Credit: Fightful)
The former WWE Hall of Famer has not yet stepped back into the ring for WWE, despite having hosted numerous events such as the “Money in the Bank” in Toronto where she introduced the surprise guest John Cena. She has expressed her intention to only return when she feels she’s at peak condition, at 100%. Several WWE stars have since expressed their desire for a dream match with Stratus or seek closure in their rivalry. Stratus is a multiple women’s champion in WWE and is widely recognized as one of the greatest female wrestlers in history.
“Stratus said to Gorilla Position in March, ‘If I talk about returning, it should be for an exceptional reason.’ He emphasized the importance of a compelling narrative and character development. If an extraordinary story opportunity arises that we can share, he would definitely consider it. Moreover, he feels he still has the energy for such a project. So, it boils down to who presents him with a creative idea.” (credits: Wrestling Inc.)
