As a die-hard fan of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when hearing about the upcoming sequel. The original film was part of my teenage years, and the memories associated with it are still vivid in my mind.
Many fans of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” films are wondering if Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., who starred in the first two movies, will reappear in the upcoming sequel. However, Brandy, who was in “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” has shown interest in returning to the series following news of the new installment. Details about the plot of the new movie are being kept secret, including whether or not a deal has been reached for Hewitt and Prinze’s return, so it remains unclear how the project will link back to its predecessors to allow for Brandy’s involvement. The release date for the latest “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is currently set for July 18, 2025.
It came as a surprise to me, but it seems Sony is working on something… Quite intriguing! The artist recently revealed this tidbit to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the initial film adaptation of Lois Duncan’s book, a gang of pals unintentionally strike a man with their vehicle, thinking him deceased, they dump his body in the sea. A year later, the group begins receiving ominous warnings about their actions, as it turns out the man lived through the ordeal and is seeking retribution against them. The protagonists, Julie (Hewitt) and Ray (Prinze), managed to survive the first movie, and they reappear in the sequel, with Brandy playing the role of Julie’s friend Karla. In the second installment, Julie finds herself under threat again from someone connected to her past, eventually discovering that the original culprit miraculously survived the previous film and, along with his son, orchestrated a scheme for vengeance.
Brandy confirmed, “They should phone me as I managed to make it through that movie! I ended up with some scrapes, but I’m still standing. I didn’t meet my demise on screen.”
She added, “Jennifer, Freddie, hit me up.”
Actors Camila Mendes (known for “Riverdale”), Madelyn Cline (“Outer Banks”), Tyriq Withers (“Atlanta”), Jonah Hauer-King (“The Little Mermaid”), and Tony Award-nominated Sarah Pidgeon are being considered for a new movie. Rumors suggest this project may follow in the footsteps of “Halloween”, “The Exorcist”, and “Scream” by providing a continuation of the original film that disregards sequels. However, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson clarified on Twitter that “I Still Know” will adhere to the established canon. It’s unlikely that the third film, which was released directly to video and had no returning stars, will be referenced in this upcoming project.
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer currently has a release date of July 18, 2025.
