Batman: Caped Crusader Introduces a Justice League Hero in Plain Sight

As a lifelong fan of DC Comics, I must say that Batman: Caped Crusader has truly outdone itself with its unique take on the iconic universe! The introduction of Plastic Man as Eel O’Brian, a photojournalist from the Gotham Gazette, is not only unexpected but also delightfully refreshing.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled about the release of “Batman: The Animates Crusader” on Prime Video, introducing an intriguing take on the DC Universe. This series doesn’t just focus on Bruce Wayne/Batman (Hamish Linklater), but also sheds light on characters from the expansive DC mythos – even an unanticipated superhero!

In the initial seasons of “Batman: Caped Crusader“, Bruce Wayne encounters Eel O’Brian, a photographer for Gotham Gazette, portrayed by Tom Kenny. His character in the series primarily revolves around scheming to capture the best photos, even collaborating with Batman to secure compromising evidence about Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Cristina Ricci). However, viewers familiar with the wider DC Universe will recognize Eel O’Brian from his significant role there. In reality, Eel O’Brian is none other than the superhero known as Plastic Man.

Who Is Eel O’Brian?

Originating in Police Comics #1 by Jack Cole, Patrick “Eel” O’Brian is a former criminal who undergoes an accidental transformation involving chemicals, leading to elastic skin. This unique ability allows him to shape-shift his body into various forms – a change that inspires him to reform and assume the superhero identity of Plastic Man. Accompanied by his sidekick Woozy Winks, Plastic Man eventually becomes a fixture in the main DC Universe following Crisis on Infinite Earths, earning enduring popularity among fans. Over the years, he has served as a member of teams such as the Justice League, the Justice League International, and The Terrifics.

The Caped Crusader didn’t just dabble once or twice in animation; Plastic Man preceded and followed him in this medium. In fact, Plastic Man starred in his own show called “The Plastic Man Comedy/Adventure Hour” back in 1979. Moreover, he’s made several appearances in “Batman: The Brave and the Bold“. Lately, Kenny has been the main voice actor for the character, except when Dana Snyder voices him in “Justice League Action
